Blake held her books to her side as she walked, bringing her hand up to push some of her hair from her face. “Oh my god, these are so good,” Mandi said, shoving another bite of the brownie with cherries into her mouth as they approached Mackenzie. “ Mack, try this shit,” Mandi said, all but shoving it into her mouth. “ You have to make some of these for the party on Friday. Shane will shit himself,” Mandi said just as the bell was going off. “Fuck you losers for having class together and I have to go by myself..” Mandi said, giving a pout and a frown before she took another bite and gave each of them a wave before she turned to head down the opposite of the end of the hallway. “ Hey.. Sophomore! I need your books!” Mandi called out as she grabbed the book for her next class from him and carried on her way. “It’s weird that we walk down the hallways together..” Blake said with a slight laugh as she looked in Mackenzie’s direction. “ I used to hide in my locker when I heard the clacking of her and Scarlet’s heels” she said before dramatically making the noise of clacking. But she smiled as she looked over at Mackenzie, the first person in Malibu she’d been able to call her best friend. “ Come on,” she said happily, tilting her head to class before they made their way over. Since tour she’d found herself more confident. It hadn’t been a long one, just over the summer and into the first month of the school year, meeting Mackenzie. She’d had a run in with Logan when she returned home that had actually turned out pretty well. When she wasn’t at school or doing homework, she was with him. Well who was she kidding. Most often he was there when she was doing homework, too.
Home Ec was going pretty quickly. Her and Mack were partners as usual. Which meant Mackenzie had an understanding that Blake didn’t like people touching things when she was baking or cooking. But it gave Mackenzie a good opportunity to look through fashion magazines and just catch up on gossip with Blake. You know, since they never saw each other. But she had also been texting Shane during class and while she usually hung out with Logan alone after school, she’d convinced him to come over. “Hey, my place after school. K?” she said as she looked over at Mack, boxing up the treats she had made for Shane. She could give them to him when he came over. When the bell rang, Blake took her time going to her locker, no longer worried that someone was going to say something to her and try and make her feel like she was less than she was. “ Hey, I got the text from Shane. Your house! I’m calling Ryan. Make something to eat!” Mandi called out as she sped down the hallway. So all in all – Mackenzie, Shane, Mandi, Riley, Kat, Ryan, hopefully Chad, probably Madeline and of course..Logan, were coming over. She smiled to herself as she made her way to her car, rolling the windows down to let the sun and wind in to her car. Once she got home she started placing out food that she had prepared early this morning before school, heating up what needed to be, placing everything out properly. And slowly they started to show up, filtering in one after the other. “ Hey,” Blake said to Chad, still slightly put off guard whenever she saw him. But thankfully Shane was behind him. “ SHANEY!” she called out, throwing her arms up in the air as she waited for him to come up and hug her. “ I have treats for you,” she said, engulfing him with a tight hug as she squeezed him tightly before letting him go. And then, save the best for last. There was Logan. She smiled as he stepped through the doorway. “More people than we’re used to,” she said sarcastically before she stood on her toes to kiss his cheek and made her way back to the living room.
A few hours later and there were empty beer bottles and wine bottles on the coffee table, loud talking, laughter. Madeline was trying to teach Ryan some game called ‘ Suck and Blow’. Mack was talking vigorously with Shane and Kat, while Chad,Mandi and Riley were planning some sort of vacation of some sorts. Blake picked up her notepad, moving one of Logan’s legs so that she was sitting between them with her back against his chest. She rest back so that her head was laying on the side of his chest and shoulder as she bent her legs up, placing the notepad on her legs. This was a moment she could live in forever. These were the people that meant the most to her in her life, they were her family. She smiled, watching each of them individually, muttering quietly as she started to write, “ We were the kings and the queens,” she said, starting to scribble away as she kept her body curled up against Logan’s. She always knew that she would move on to bigger and better things, that someday she would take the stage by storm. But she hadn’t ever anticipated that the ‘stage’ of her life, would include people that would grow to mean so much to her. Even her friendship with Logan, just being able to sit here against his body and know that he loved their friends just as much as she did meant a lot to her, too. She wasn’t the shy mousy girl anymore. She was still nice, but she had a bit more of a backbone. She knew what she wanted her music to stand for, what she wanted her image to be, how she wanted to help people. And everyone in this room had been responsible for shaping her into that.
