To anyone else she probably looked really conceited. Who watched their own music videos? But Blake was settled into her first class seat, touching the frame of her iPad as the Style music video played on it. She’d been on tour for a couple of months now, living this scary new life away from everyone she knew. And the person she was most looking forward to seeing, aside from Kenzie and Emma, was Logan. She could even feel the chills on her arm now as she watched him touching them in the music video. The flight attendant approached her, kindly telling her that they had landed. “Oh,” she said, offering a quick smile. “Thank you,”. Blake had chosen not to fly on the plane provided by Taboo. It was the holidays and she knew that some of the people on tour hadn’t seen their families in a while either. So instead, she’d sent the plane to some of the farther parts of the country so that her tour mates didn’t have to wait as long to see their families. She could wait the extra hour to board a United Airlines flight.
When she got through the terminal at New York, she pushed her hair behind her ear, standing on her toes as she tried to spot Logan. But as she saw a sign with her name on it, a smile burst across her face. That had to be the best dressed chauffeur Blake had seen her entire life. “Mack!” she said excitedly, running toward her best friend as she wrapped her long arms around the petite framed girl. “Oh my gosh, I can’t believe it’s you,” she said at the excitement of Mackenzie being the one to pick her up. She wasn’t sure if it was because Logan was busy with the girls, with work, a combination of the both, or maybe he just truly thought that she hadn’t seen Mackenzie in a long time. Riley had sent her a text message about the two of them needing to spend time together. It had been so strange, really. Before she had left for the tour, Mackenzie had been a crucial part of Blake figuring out this new identity. From how she styled her hair now, to her makeup, clothes, choreography for the tour, it was almost like Mackenzie was her own personal “Blake expert”. Now that she felt like she was getting that under control, it felt nice just to be able to finally see Mackenzie and be able to spend time with her without having to “rehearse” being herself. They could just shop, bake, dance, laugh, tell stories, watch movies, do whatever the hell they wanted.
After getting to the arena, Blake became very aware that amidst all of her preparation for the tour… that Logan hadn’t actually seen this tour yet. They had wanted to create some sort of consistency for the girls, and him being with them made the most sense right now. Blake looked around the backstage part of the arena, popping her fingers nervously as everything began to get set up. She had offered to give them a suite, and she presumed that with the kids there, they would eventually move to it. But Kenzie had insisted on being in the front row for the beginning of the show. So as everyone’s bracelets lit up to mimic the lights of New York, Blake stood still, letting the stage rise up so she could be a part of it and see every one else. As the stage locked in place, she stood there for a moment in darkness before the spotlight finally shined down on her. Her eyes locked immediately with her families, bringing her microphone to her red lips, “Welcome to New York….” she sang quietly before lowering the microphone back to her side. People were actually screaming…for her. It was a feeling that she wasn’t sure she could get used to. “Welcome to New York…It’s been waiting for you,” she said again, this time looking back at Logan. Hadn’t it been? This life she had built for herself, with Logan, was waiting for her just the way she had left it when she left for tout. And he’d been waiting for her as well.
Before the lights dropped out from I Knew You Were Trouble, she noticed that Logan and Mack were moving the girls, probably heading to the suite. Kenzie looked like she was trying to direct Brayden around, when really it was probably the other way around. He looked so cute with his little faux hawk and his headphones covering his ears, yet somehow still perfectly at home with the music going on around him. Blake ran downstairs, changing into her next costume change when she saw Logan walking down the hall alone. “He-“ she had started to greet him, but found herself caught off guard as he placed a kiss against her lips. Her heart instantly began to flutter in her chest and it took a moment for her brain to catch up before she could bring her hand up to his chest. “Blake, we gotta go,” the production assistant said, finally puling at Blake’s arm to pull her away. She touched her finger to her lips, feeling as though they were tingling all over as she set to the stage to perform Out of the Woods.
It was really hard not to smile the entire duration of the song. Primarily because Logan had unexpectedly planted one on her, but also because it fit so perfectly with the message of the song. Are we in the clear yet? Good. Blake ripped the back of her wardrobe off once she was down below stage again. “Set it for How You Get the Girl,” Blake said, stepping out of the outfit. She turned to the rack, pulling on pale pink dress she wanted to wear for the number. “We aren’t prepared for..that’s..” the production assistant started before they noticed that Blake was reaching for the microphone that would attach to her ear. With a sigh the production assistant turned and yelled, “HOW YOU GET THE GIRL, PEOPLE” . If anyone was going to notice that the transition from the last song to the new one wasn’t going as smoothly and quickly as it should, it would be Logan. But thankfully, he was up in a suite with Mackenzie where he was effectively useless to the show.
Honestly, Blake wasn’t even sure if Logan had heard the song. But it hadn’t been a part of her set list. And regardless of whether he had personally been to the shows for this tour, he was still her manager. He knew what the set lists were, what songs were and weren’t a part of it. And here she was trying to mix everything up. If he had heard it, it wasn’t because she had played it for him. Maybe Collin.. or one of the PA’s.. or him just being Logan and looking through everything and putting his final seal of approval on it. At any rate, the dancers quickly realigned their focus for the new song and she was able to successfully get across some sort of message to Logan, even though she herself wasn’t sure what she wanted it to be. I’m glad I’m home? I love you? You got the girl? It had been a long six months….
After the show Blake was standing backstage wearing black skinny jeans, ankle boots, and a cut off t-shirt as she leaned down, listening to everything that Kenzie was telling her. Some parts were good, she didn’t like some of the dancers outfits, Brayden danced really well to these songs, dad seemed to smile at this one, Aunt Mackenzie was really pretty, she was hungry, she wanted Brayden to spend the night. “I actually thought I might have the kids over for a sleepover,” Mackenzie said as she looked between Logan and Blake. Kenzie was already looking at Lily, talking to her about how many guitars she did or didn’t have. Lily… looking like a tiny little perfectly dressed politician with a neat little head band in her beautiful blonde hair and holding her clutch at the crook of her arm. Well, that kid was going to get Kenzie out of trouble someday. Because Lord knew that Brayden was going to her into it.
The entire car ride home, Blake spent the drive nitpicking what she could do differently about the show. She was sure she was probably annoying Logan to pieces, but she really trusted his opinion when it came to her career, and she hadn’t been able to talk this way with just anyone. “Oh, and I’ve been having Shane’s Christmas presents delivered with ‘Attention: Hutch Cassidy’ on them… I figured that was a name he wouldn’t care about, and thus.. wouldn’t be digging around trying to find his presents,” she said, taking in a deep breath with a sigh as they pulled into their garage. Home sweet home. Blake stepped inside, just setting her purse on the counter so she could take a shower when she heard her phone go off. A facetime request from Riley… Blake narrowed her eyebrows before answering it to a bawling Kenzie. “He’s doing it wrong,” she wailed. “What’s wrong honey?” Blake asked, sitting at the barstool. But then she noticed Riley trying to put a headband in her hair. With a scrunch of her nose, “Where is aunt Mackenzie?” she asked. “She went to get ice cream,” Kenzie said, pushing tears from her face. But as Riley approached her with the headband again, Kenzie let out a blood curling scream at the top of her lungs. Blake sighed, looking at Logan. “Go ahead and get your shower, I have to handle a hair meltdown..” she said, leaning over to give him a quick kiss before she turned her attention back to the phone.
About twenty minutes later Blake was able to get Riley to understand to NOT put a headband in her hair. And honestly, Brayden had been more help than Blake had. “No, like this” he had said adorable, patting his hands on Kenzie’s hair. It ended up looking horrible, but because Brayden had put it in a ponytail, she was pleased. Blake placed her ear to the bathroom, the water was running so surely he was in the shower. She could at least brush her teeth or get her face washed while she waited. When she opened the door, she was surprised to see Logan standing there, with the towel wrapped around his waist. “Oh, I’m s-“ she started, stopping herself as she lingered at the door with her hand on the doorhandle. She felt a small catch in her throat, not realizing that she was holding her breath as she looked at him. A moment of silence, and then she shut the door behind herself, reaching down to lift her cropped shirt off before dropping it to the floor and bringing her hands to the side of his jaw to kiss him.
The next morning, Blake was smiling into her coffee cup as she heard Mackenzie coming inside. “Riley, Shane and Ryan are watching the kids today. So we get a best friend day,” she said, setting her Coach on the counter top. Blake barely heard what she had said, smiling at Logan as he reached his arm around her to eat another blueberry from the bowl that she had used to make him blueberry pancakes earlier. She brought her thumb up, wiping a bit of whipped cream away from his lip before she stood on her toes to give him a kiss. Normally she would have packed him a lunch, but she remembered him saying something about having to go to a lunch meeting with some other executives. She hated that he had to have meetings today, but it would be nice to spend it with Mackenzie, too. She nibbled against his bottom lip before moving her hand from his jaw to the side of his neck, and then rested it against his chest, moving away from him reluctantly. “Bye,” she said wistfully before letting her arm stretch out with his as he walked away, letting her hand drop against her side. After the door shut, she looked down at the floor, smiling slightly before looking back up at Mackenzie who was sitting there with her arms crossed and an all knowing grin. Blake adjusted the tie on her waist from her robe before picking her coffee cup up. “What?” she asked nonchalantly before taking a sip of her coffee. “…..Where are the girls?” she asked, realizing she hadn’t seen them come in, plus she had been so distracted from Logan that she hadn’t heard a word Mackenzie had said.
