Dani adjusted in her seat, smiling as she pushed some of her hair back. “I can’t tell you how happy we are to have you here,” Ellen said as she tapped her own note cards against her knee. She looked up, lifting her eyebrows slightly before she teased. “Well, I think you probably have a deal with Logan. You get all of the Taboo Artists. Does he have stock in your company?” she asked. Ellen looked back with an excited expression of her own, “If I give him some, do you think he would give me stock in some of Taboo?” Dani laughed, licking the corner of her lips. “He won’t give me stock in the company,” she teased before sitting back, as though she were just at a friends house.
“So tell us what is going on with your life, you have lots of exciting things coming out soon,”. Dani took in a deep breath and nodded, “ Yeah some of my singles have done really well.. Good For You and Same Old Love came out.. and my next single that we are looking at is Hands To Myself,” she said, smiling as she turned to look at the people who were clapping before looking at Ellen. “It’s a good album, I’m excited, too. Logan, Ryan and Ellie in the label each had a hand in producing parts of the record,” she said, starting to continue but pausing as Ellen spoke. “When you think Ryan you definitely think… sexy latina music…” she jested. Dani sat up excitedly, gesturing to Ellen, “The thing is that they are so talented at exhibiting sex in so many different ways. I didn’t intend to create an album that was almost entirely about sex.” “That’s exactly what you did.. Have you listened to it?” she asked. Dani laughed and shook her head, “No, Logan doesn’t let me do that,”
“Speaking of you and Logan.. have you seen the videos?” she questioned and Dani knew immediately what she was talking about. “Oh, I know,” she said, narrowing her eyes slightly. Ellen turned to the audience, to sort of give an explanation for anyone who might not know. “Logan Renner is the CEO and main producer within Taboo Records and he has a certain…magnetism about him that drives straight women crazy. And gay men..” she said, waiting a moment before continuing, “Some lesbian women,” she said, clearing her throat as she referred to herself. Dani laughed as she watched Ellen slightly shaking her head. “But there are fans out there that ‘ship’ you two together. They mix your music together, they freak out when you two are seen together. What is that like? Cause you work with him a lot, and I know him and Blake really well, how do you guys handle that?”
“Oh, I think it’s just such a part of our business. And I think… I mean, I guess it is easy for me to see why people see it and want for it to happen. Out of all of the girls at the label I think that I’m the one that Logan sort of directly manages the most. There are a lot girls at the label and I don’t think that I’m portraying the same image as them exactly. Ellie is an obvious sexy. Lights does not…. Care at all about what is sexy. She did a show in a onesie the other day. Blake is… sexy in her own way that is sophisticated and mature. Anabelle… bless her. And then there’s me, and I think Logan and I are… having fun finding that sexuality for me and how it evolves in my music through the music itself, the image, the dancing,” she said, taking in a slight breath. “ So Logan helps you discover your sexuality,” Ellen said flatly. Dani laughed quickly, “I’m not helping myself here,” she said, adjusting in her seat.
“You did say that he was your celebrity crush,” Ellen pointed out. Dani lift her eyebrows and pointed at her. “Yes, but to be fair.. WHO else in the business is as driven as he is? I’m really attracted to driven and passionate natures. And he is the hardest working person in the industry. It’s an attractive feature. I would say Ryan, but he’s the laziest person I know. He has like spurts of productivity and then he hermits up with his wife and baby. Logan will be directing a conference call while braiding someone’s hair, and signing someone else’s contract. I swear he’s a machine. I just spend time with him so I can look for his battery compartment,” she said, shaking her head for a moment. “ Luckily for you, you don’t have to actually have a celebrity crush because you are in a relationship with Jake Russo.” Ellen said, which was covered almost immediately by noise of screaming and applause.
“ Oh, I guess you guys like him,” Dani said with a slight laugh. “Yeah, I think it’s pretty clear that I am the luckiest girl in the world,” she said with a nod of finality. “You guys have been busy, you with your album and your upcoming appearance on the Victoria Secret Show and then Jake.. he just won Dancing With the Stars.” Dani smiled instantly and nodded, “Yeah, honestly, I never imagined he would have done something like that. But I think he is so competitive in nature, that if ANY competition show called he would momentarily laugh it off, but then almost immediately take advantage of it. Just so he can win. And I’m not putting that out as a request for people to call. Please don’t. I would like to finally spend time with him,” she said, slightly holding her hands up. “You have news for us, too, I think. But I want to first catch a glimpse. You brought us a sneak peek of your video for Hands To Myself, so let’s go ahead and take a look,”.
Dani turned in her seat to look at the large screen. It was thirty seconds of black and white, Jake and Dani dancing together in the studio, laughing at a mess up and then just kissing each other anyway, cooking in their kitchen which led to a food fight, a white sheet wrapped over them, up close shots of her fingertips over his jawline, the usual. It finishd on a screenshot of Dani leaning forward and laughing, her hands wrapped around the white sheet which was the only thing covering her. “ What’s that?” Ellen pointed out, smiling at Dani as she bounced her foot. “ Which part?” Dani asked, looking back at the video. Ellen cleared her throat, motioning to the ring on Dani’s left and in the video. “Is that an engagement ring?” she questioned. Immediately Dani looked away from the screen and then at everyone else and waited a slight beat before nodding once. “ Yes,” she said, sliding the ring off of her middle finger and placing it onto her ring finger. She waited for everyone to quiet down, letting Ellen place a follow up question. “ I mean, wow, congratulations. Jake is one of the most fascinating guys in Hollywood to talk to, and I think you’re both so lucky. I gotta ask ..because you two, for being so well known, and it being known that you are in a relationship, you’ve always been so relatively private about your relationship. So why display it now, what made you feel like presenting this so publicly?”
Dani narrowed her eyebrows slightly and tilted her head side to side. “ I think that we are pretty private people,and I think certain aspects of our relationship always are going to be. But… it was going to get out that we are engaged one way or another, and this was one way for us to sort of take ownership over the way that it got out. Um… You know on my last album I was so proud of it because I had gained this self confidence that I was lacking. I was sort of going through this time in my life where I didn’t know my own worth. When I discovered it, I was all about it and wanted to showcase it. And I guess… for me, the album and everything that it means to me, it’s entirely this love letter to Jake. I took a page from Blake’s book. But… no, seriously, I think.. I’m just so proud of him, and to be his that it’s something that to me is okay to display. But that doesn’t mean you’re going to all of the sudden see every detail of our lives. He’s very private. Probably more private than I am. But he’s mysterious, and fascinating. He keeps you on the edge of your seat. I mean I’m engaged to him and I don’t even know what he is going to do next half of the time, I just know that I want to be by his side when he does it,” she said, offering a small shrug of her shoulder. She narrowed her eyebrows quickly, “ And he’s really attractive shirtless,” she added in a slightly joking way, because one that had gotten heavy, and two.. I mean, he really was attractive without a shirt. “Well we know you think that, we’ve heard your other songs about sex…” Ellen said before acting like she was moving onto another subject quickly. “ I’d probably write about sex a lot too if I was going home to that every night.” Dani couldn’t help but laugh as she shook her head. “We brought you some literal gin and juice to celebrate getting engaged to your metaphorical gin and juice,” she said, looking at the tray that was being brought out.
“Oh my god, what time is it?!” Dani said, sitting up as she took a glass from the tray. “ I hope Shane is watching,” she said quietly. “ I mean, this airs at a later time,” Ellen said, “ I think in the afternoon,”. Dani sat back, “ We know how this day is going to go apparently.” she said before taking a long sip from the glass. “ Don’t drink all of that, you have to share with Jake. Who do you think we are? We don’t have that kind of money,” Ellen joked. “ Oh,” Dani said, taking one last sip before she stood up and head to the side of the stage. She leaned out of the frame, giving Jake a quick kiss before handing him the glass. “Is he here? Bring him out!” Ellen said, standing up excitedly. Dani looked back at Jake, smiling before she lowered her hand to his and walked out to the couch with him. It was ridiculous how much people loved him. But the moment they got to the set, Ellen was taking over. “Put the glass down, we have to do something,” she said. Ellen grabbed Jake’s arm and pulled him in front of a blue screen and took a white sheet from a production assistant to the side. “ You and I are going to recreate the video, but no one tell Portia,” she said. Immediately Hands To Myself started playing and Ellen wrapped the sheet around herself and Jake, causing Dani to laugh as Ellen spoke to him, “ I want to see the Dancing With the Stars hip movements. But don’t think because of the lyrics and your apparent sexual attraction to me that I’ll fall for it, Jake. This is a one time thing,” Ellen said. Dani sat back down on the couch , placing the edge of her thumb over her bottom lip as she watched her fiancé with the biggest lez in the biz.
