Kenzie dropped her backpack in the corner of the coffee shop. Finals were coming up for her first year of college, and while it had been an awesome year, she was ready to get it over with. The second semester had started off a little trickier, since she’d been having to recover from the plane accident. But, she’d also gained Brayden. And for nearly six months she’d been able to call him hers. Legitimately hers. Of course, he had to go back on tour eventually. So that royally sucked. But it was coming to a close soon, and…actually, she wasn’t sure how many shows he had left to be honest. She’d been so swarmed with finals shit, that all she knew was that he would be giving her a few days heads up when he was coming home. Construction was going on near Kenzie’s place, which had left her unable to focus. Luckily, she’d discovered this coffee shop a while ago when her and Brayden were hiding from some of the paparazzi following him. “Hi, just an iced Americano, please,” she said, offering the barista a smile before taking out a few dollar bills. She waited, rocking back on the heels of her boots before she placed a few bucks in the tip jar. Once her coffee was made, she reached up to take it and tried to ready herself for getting her books out. It was her first year of school but she hadn’t been interested in “generals”. In fact, she’d been able to test out of a lot of those. Thanks for the genius genes, dad. But, her second semester had been crammed with political science classes. Kenzie set the coffee down, reaching up to take off Brayden’s flannel and wrap it around her waist. She tightened the knot with a sense of aggression, not please to be working on homework when he could be doing activities with Emma. Probably picking dandelions or some shit. Two iced Americanos later, Kenzie had all of the books spread out on the table in front of her, strewn open at various points in the book with papers scribbled all over flooding the table. With a sigh, Kenzie puffed out her cheeks, placing her chin into the palm of her hand. The pen in her hand tapped along to the music that was pouring from her headphones. Maybe she could take a break. She’d been giving this the good ol’ college try. Maybe her dad would be willing to take her out to dinner. Maybe her mom would bake her something… Blake probably had something baked already. Emma was probably hoarding it for her and Wes and their little picnic gatherings. Kenzie got up, going to get yet another iced Americano but this time on the side of a blueberry muffin before taking her seat again. Outfit

Brayden felt so relieved to be back home in the city, on his way to surprise Kenzie. She had no idea he was already home, last he knew she was so swamped with finals she thought he had a week or so left of shows. He didn't. Their last show was two days ago in Dublin and he was home now, having found out from Emma where her sister was. He wasn't shocked that she as studying; Kenzie had always been a brain much as she was good at hiding it.
Brayden walked in the coffee shop he remembered hanging out in with her, looking around and then spotted her sitting in a corner booth, books sprawled all over her table. She hadn't even looked up from her studies and Brayden smiled, sliding into a seat at a table near the front. For not having seen her for a few months, he didn't want to disturb her just yet. She was twirling her hair around one finger, furrowing her eyebrows together as she glanced over three different books. Brayden smiled, loving seeing her, loving that she didn't know he was there. Eventually she would have to look up, he was sure. But for the moment it was fun looking in on her world without him in it. He never got to see what she was up to when he wasn't around.
Finally, his cover was blown as she took a breath and grabbed her coffee, probably an iced americano, and looked around the shop. As her eyes found their way over and rested on where he sat, he grinned sheepishly, sorry she'd caught him, but glad she'd finally looked. Brayden got up and walked over, feigning unfamiliararity, "I'm sorry to stare, I see you're doing some heavy reading," he smiled, "I just couldn't look away. Would you mind if I joined you? I'm Brayden by the way."

Kenzie let out a small scoff, paired with a smirk, as Brayden spoke to her. If this wasn’t the best surprise in the world… It was strange for her to think about how right now she was supposed to be married to someone else, when right now her entire world was standing in front of her. “What are you…” she started, shaking her head quickly. “ How are you..” she started again, but then just smiled, dropping both the coffee and the muffin to the floor before she wrapped her arms around his neck to place a kiss against his lips. Kenzie held onto him tightly, not ever wanting to let go. Since really, that’s what the last six months had felt like. Hell, that’s what the entirety of her life had felt like. She held on tightly to his neck, leaning back away from him, but shook her head at him all the same. He was home. Emma probably knew about this. “Your tour is over..” she said, finally understanding why he was home. It’s not like he would skip out on the last week of shows. “Tell me everything,” she said, smiling again as she looked over the features of his face, like she didn’t already have them memorized.

"Tour is done..." Brayden smiled while it registered on her face that more time may have passed than she thought. Brayden wrapped his arms around Kenzie, kissing her back, kissing the side of her hair, not daring to let go just yet. No hug was enough right now. "Aw, Kenzie, the muffin," he said, disappointed, "I had my eye on that muffin from over there," he laughed. Brayden slid into the booth, pulling her in with him and wrapped an arm around her, "Alright. Tour was good, we've got a really good start on ideas and things for the next album," he smiled, shaking his head, "I don't know, nothing too new or crazy. What are you working on?" Brayden looked at the open books, "Oh, am I going to be a distraction? You have finals," he said, genuinely concerned he would break her focus.

Kenzie's eyes widened as Brayden initially started talking about the tour. You know how people are really attractive when they are doing something they are passionate about? Brayden was insanely attractive when he talked about his music career. It was like she wanted to absorb everything about him, notice every detail when his own eyes lit up talking about. She looked up at the cute little blonde girl who worked there, muttering something to herself about dandelion tea. Kenzie quickly apologized about the muffin and coffee, asking for some replacements to be sent over before she refocused her attention entirely on Brayden. A distraction? Kenzie looked from Brayden down to the books but then just looked up at him and smiled, " It's just some Political Thought, Common Law, and Court Procedures," she said, reaching out just to hold his arm, his hand, anything. " They're nothing." she said, pushing them to the side. She'd been so obsessed with studying since Brayden left that she could honestly probably take the finals right now and do fine. Besides, if she thought she was going to get any studying done now that he was here she was dead wrong. "What are you thinking for the next album?" she asked, smiling but couldn't help but squeeze her hand against his. " Are you hungry? Are you thirsty?" she asked, lifting her eyebrows. " Should we do something? Do you want to see a movie? Superman vs. Batman is out." she said, feeling herself start to ramble. But it felt like the missing part of her was finally back in her life, lounging across from her. "Does Aj know your home? Is it okay that you're with me instead of your family? Wanna go make out?" she said, smiling as she leaned across the table slightly.

Brayden was so happy to be sitting with Kenzie, and he really wanted to tell her all about tour and the new music and everything else, but he also was still a teenage guy, who started a new relationship a few months ago and then left to play music on the other side of the world. To say he wouldn't mind not talking about tour right now was one way of putting it. They were gonna need a few days to get caught up on everything going on in each other's worlds. She asked about the album, Brayden managing a short response, "I'm not totally sure the direction yet..." and then she was asking if he was hungry, which a new muffin was delivered to their table coincidentally, "Yeah I could eat, but then..." He paused, shrugging, "Yeah maybe later we could see a movie, and have dinner, in the mean time though- yeah she knows. I can hang out with tomorrow- YES. Yes. I thought you would never ask," Brayden said, taking a bite of the muffin. Want to make out? Did he ever.

Kenzie had her arms crossed on the table as she watched him try and keep up with her, answering the questions just as quickly as she asked them. "Great!" she said as he mentioned that he wanted to make out. If he was hanging out with AJ tomorrow, that meant he could spend the night at her place tonight. Lucky girl. And lucky for Brayden, she had half of his wardrobe at her place anyway from showing up at his place to get things to wear. " Walk and eat," she said, reaching to her side to pick up her jacket. Kenzie picked up her bag, trying to put as many books as she could into it, but still finding herself having to carry two of them. " Walk and eat," she said again, almost urgently, as she reached down to grab the front of his shirt and pull him out of the booth. Kenzie smiled, reaching down to hold his hand as she stepped out of the little coffee shop. The sounds of New York. Brayden's hand in hers. This is what normal felt like.. if normal felt like heaven. But it did feel perfect, and like she could finally take a breath again. There was a certain sense of anxiety that she felt when he wasn't around. Even at a young age her parents had never understood it. Thankfully her place wasn't too far from here, just a few blocks. And Brayden had those long legs where walking seemed like floating to him. " You have clothes at my place... If you wanted to stay over." she said, giving a small shrug of her shoulder, not realizing that she was picking up the pace as she walked.
