Claire stood in her bathroom, checking the final touches of her outfit before she ran her hand into the side of her hair to fluff up her curls. She leaned away from the counter before unplugging her curling iron and shutting the light off. She still hadn’t stayed the night at her place since she’d gotten to New York. Dalton was being really nice about letting her stay at his place. She’d eventually had to break down and start crying, but to her surprise Dalton wasn’t disappointed in her when she told him why she was upset. She assumed he would have thought that it was stupid, childish. But he seemed to be a lot more understanding than she had initially given him credit for. But how she was dealing with it, wasn’t exactly the way she had expected herself. She could feel herself starting to harden. After a few days of reflection she had decided she didn’t want to quit ABA or ballet, but she sure as hell didn’t feel as passionate about it. In fact, the only way she was able to actually get back in was blackmailing Carter. Which was something she never would have done before. Either way, that was one thing she could finally get that she wanted. Her and Shane had always been friends. Just friends. So she knew it didn’t make any sense to be mad at him, but she wasn’t about to let herself be vulnerable near him, not when he had the power to hurt her. She’d let him in to a part of her she hadn’t really shared with anyone else before, and that hadn’t been good enough for him. Fine, she didn’t need him anyways. Most people outside of the situation probably didn’t understand why she could be friends with Anthony, when she did date him, but why she distanced herself from Shane, when all they were was friends. But her and Anthony had been friends for years, it just felt a part of who she was. Even though Shane sort of did, too.
Going to the store had taken a little bit longer than she had initially planned, but a little over an hour later she was using her old key to open the door to Anthony and Ethan’s apartment. “ Honey, I’m home” she said sarcastically before she stepped out of her high heels and came inside carrying the six pack of beer and the other hand carrying the bag of groceries for them to make a homemade pizza together. Claire smiled as she came into the living room and dropped the grocery bag behind the couch. “ And I brought you a present,” she said, leaning over the back of the couch where she wrapped her arm around him and placed her chin on his shoulder to give him a hug, setting the six pack of beer on his own six-pack. “ No wine this time. I learned from my last mistake,” she said smirking before she gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and stood up straight. “ Come on, Owens. We have some cooking to do,” she said before she picked up the grocery bag and made her way back into the kitchen. Claire set everything down on the counter before she turned and took her iPod out of her purse. She scrolled through to her playlist for Anthony, which had music she would never listen to otherwise and placed it on the sound system before she turned and started taking groceries out of the bags.
