Scarlet curled up on his bed and laid down as she stared at the ceiling, playing back what he had said to her. Well atleast he had opted to give her a chance to change his mind, but it didn’t even seem like he had known who she was when they had met. At least, he didn’t give her any indication that he knew who she was, which was pretty rare. She got lost in her own thoughts, and she wasn’t even sure for how long until she heard the door opening and she looked up to see Zach standing with only a towel wrapped around his waist. Unfair. Scarlet stood off the bed and stretched, knowing that it was her turn to take a shower. She looked back over at him as he talked about Zoe, saying that her bark was worse than her bite. Scarlet didn’t really care what Zoe had to say to her, she knew she could handle it. She’d been through worse. What Scarlet cared about more was how it would effect Zach. She didn’t want two parts of his world to clash because it would only cause a headache for him. Scarlet just nodded when he said that Zoe was being a protective sister. She would have done the same for Noah in a heartbeat. But when he said that he was going to go take a shower, Scarlet smiled and stood on her toes, wrapping her arms around his still damp skin as she hugged him and kissed his cheek. After she lowered her arms she dropped her hands to where his towel was and gripped her fingers around it just enough to pull him closer to her and kissed him on the lips. “ Sarcastic as it might have been, I’m taking you up on that joint shower eventually,” she said before she bit against his lower lip lovingly and smiled at him, backing away into his bathroom.
The hot water felt good on her sore muscles. She’d been tense almost the entire night sleeping over at his place. She was scared, but she was fighting with herself to stay there, to give him a chance. But it had literally caused her to become physically sore and for her neck to be stiff, having to physically force her body to keep from getting out of bed and running. Where would she run to? Nowhere felt as safe as Zach’s arms. After she showered quickly she towel dried her hair and pulled on her cheerleading shorts again but found one of Zach’s hoodies to pull on over her bra and headed out into the kitchen where he was sitting with Zoe and they both had newspaper spread out in front of them. “Hi,” she said hesitantly, smiling at each of them as she held her hands in front of her. She looked down at the table and noticed some of the subjects of the articles and saw her fathers picture plastered across one of them. She tried to non-chalantly flip it over and ignore it, not wanting Zoe to have any reason to make any comments before she sat down and looked at each of them. This was the first time in her entire life where she had actually felt uncomfortable. But if Zach was worth sticking around for because she loved him and was making herself forgo running away, then she could handle getting to know his family.
