Kyle held onto the pizza with his teeth, jamming his thumbs into the controller as he tried to take out part of the squad on Anthony’s side of the screen. It was a bad storm outside, but that hadn’t stopped him from throwing in a video game and trying his best to whoop some of Anthony’s ass.. except it sort of backfired and he was getting his ass beat by Anthony. But just as he was having some kind of come back the screen turned off, followed quickly by all of the lights in their apartment. Kyle dropped the pizza from his mouth. “ Oh come on man..” he said turning to Anthony. He picked the piece of pizza up off of his shirt and stood up, looking at the now blacked out apartment. “ Well the generators should kick in any minute,” he said with a tone of skepticism as he looked around the darkness. After a long moment of silence he sighed and threw his head back, groaning. “ Alright I’m gonna put some candles on for you bro. But before it gets too Brokeback in here I’m gonna head over to Sutton’s to make sure she’s alright,” he said, heading into the kitchen where he looked for the candles under the sink that Claire left behind. He took them out and pulled a lighter from a drawer and lit them all, placing a few around the place. “ I’ll be back in a little while I just want to make sure she’s alright,” he said, making his way out of the apartment but he stopped with his hand on the door handle before he turned back into their place and went quickly over to the closet by the bathroom. He pulled out a spare sheet and ripped it down a few times so that it would fit for a cape for Tanner. If he was going to be scared, which maybe he wasn’t, then Kyle wanted to give him something that might give him a bit more courage. He could be a super hero for his mom if he needed to be.
Kyle held onto the fabric and made his way over to Sutton’s apartment. She’d become quick friends with Claire when they moved in, and even though Claire moved out he hadn’t quit talking to her completely. They spent a little less time together, but that was expected. And it was sort of better that way. Kyle kept few people close to him because of his line of work. But every time he did spend with Sutton he enjoyed her company. She was pretty mature and responsible, and handled young motherhood like a pro. He lifted his hand up, tapping the back of his knuckles against her door. “ Hey Sutton it’s Kyle..” he called out through the door, “ I just wanted to check on you guys,” he said looking at the door before he puffed his cheeks out and sighed. Chances were they were okay, probably just a little frazzled. He was a little kid, and Sutton was a girl. They tended to be freaked out by storms, right? At least that’s what had led Kyle here in the first place.
