Bailey leaned forward in her car, hitting her forehead against her steering wheel. How did she always end up back here? After a quiet sigh she shut the car off and got out of the car before stretching her arms out above her head. “ Welcome home,” she said quietly to herself before picking up her pair of rehearsal heels from her backseat. As she pushed open the doors to the studio, the stillness and quiet echoed upon itself. Eerie. Bailey stepped inside, letting the door slam behind herself. Yup. Still creepy how quiet it was. She took in a deep breath, letting her shoulders drop as she sighed and made her way down the stretch of a hallway until she pushed the door open. “ You’re here… “ she said with a smile as she looked over at what had been her first dance instructor – ever. “Well of course I’m here, I said I would be didn’t I?” he questioned with a feisty tone as he placed his hand on his hip. Bailey smiled slowly as she stepped out of her ugg boots and dropped the heels to the floor, stepping into them slowly. “ Come over here, let me get a look at you” he said, waving her over. Bailey pushed her hair away from her face as she made her way over. “ Look at you… Do a spin, let’s see it.” he said. Bailey smiled tiredly, giving a roll of her eyes as she twirled slowly on one foot before planting her right foot back down. “ How’s Anthony?” he asked with a bright smile. “ Oh,” Bailey said, looking down at the floor with her eyebrows narrowed. “ Actually, he and I aren’t together anymore,” she said, placing her hands on her hips as she looked around the stage for the first time in what felt like forever. It literally felt like this was a completely different life. “ I’m so sorry to hear that. We all really liked Anthony,” he said, causing Bailey to give a slight nod. ‘ People move on… I mean jesus” he said with a slight laugh as she put her arms out. “ Who would have ever thought that I’d move on from this place?” she said before biting her ponytail holder off of her wrist and starting to put her hair up in a ponytail. “ Starring in a movie with Soldier Hotpants..” he said, snapping his fingers together to signal that he thought Liam was fierce. “ That boy is hotter than Ryan Gosling strapped naked to a horse,”. Bailey made a confused face as she walked the length of the stage, “ What?” she asked while trying not to laugh, “ He’s a war-hardened soldier.” she offered with a slight lift of her eyebrow. “ Hot and damaged? His sex has got to be worth paying for. Or dying for,”Bailey brought her forehead as she shook her head. At least it wasn’t in his nature to maintain political correctness.
“ I don’t think it’s appropriate to say things like that,” Bailey said, taking her ipod out of her duffel bag so she could shuffle through and try to find some music for either inspiration or to actually pick as a song to dance to. “ So what about Liam? Have you two started a little.. you know.. bump and grind?” he asked, causing Bailey to look over her shoulder at him as he moved his hips around. ”You’re the most inappropriate individual I know. And Willie is one of my best friends,” she said before tapping her nose and pointing at him. “ Have you?” he questioned again. “ No. As soon as the film is released and people go see it.. we’re pretty much done having to associate together. At all. I mean by the time the dvd comes out we’ll probably be doing some interviews, talking about new projects, by the way go buy my movie Safe Haven..Liam is great, blah blah bullshit. But.. smooth sailing from here on out,” Bailey said as she moved her arms from side to side. “ I’m sorry, .. I’ve never seen you set a deadline on a friendship before,” . Bailey made a face, looking over at him as she shook her head. “ Well , this isn’t a friendship. So I still haven’t” she offered before biting down onto the edge of her lips. “ What did he ever do to you?” he asked with a stern tone. “ Nothing.. He…” she started off before cutting herself short and shaking her head. “ He has this idea. He thinks he knows who I am. I overheard him..” . It felt weird standing there, the lights of the stage out, the only people in the entire room being herself and an audience, her dance partner. But in this moment, it struck her as odd, realizing that she felt more vulnerable standing here answering these questions. “ And how does he see you?” he asked again quietly. “ Look this is stupid. And pointless. Who cares what some asshole soldier thinks of me?” she asked as she moved across the stage. “ Clearly you do,” he offered, causing Bailey to glare at him. “He thinks I get around.. or.. “ she started off, taking in a deep breath, “ That I’m flighty.. and..He probably thinks that I’m inconsequential. “ she said, tapping her toes against the floor as she bent her leg back. “ Okay but you just said he was basically inconsequential by calling him ‘some asshole soldier’. So how about this.. how about we admit to ourselves that he means something to you. Let’s start there” he offered and Bailey turned to look at him, feeling the heat rise in her chest as she clenched her fists. “ What the hell are you trying to get at?” she asked him with her voice rising, staring him dead in the eye. ”Bailey I’ve been there since the first time you stepped into a pair of heels and twirled around a dance floor. I know exactly what it was like growing up for you. I’ve seen every relationship you’ve had since you started dating at the age of fifteen…I’ve seen you run into the face of danger just to feel adrenaline, make stupid choices just to see how it turns out. You speak your mind and you say exactly how you feel. That doesn’t strictly define you. You know exactly why you never let anyone in, l’ve never seen you get upset about relationship problems. I’ve never seen you let anything get to you,really.. You go for what you want in the moment, and act without regard to consequences. What I’ve never seen you do.. is put a deadline on something,” he said with an edge to his own tone as well.
“Well, clearly you don’t know me as well as you think you do. This is me,” she said, throwing her hands out to the side before she turned to walk away from him. “ I know you. I know that you’re scared. For the first time in your life, you’re scared. And you’re giving it a deadline, and acting like a bitch because that way… when he walks away, you can pretend it was your idea all along. Your idea, your choice, your decision. “ he said, causing Bailey to freeze while walking. “ Something about him grounds you. Something about him terrifies you about losing him. Why else would you go out of your way to try and push him away so rashly? What is so wrong with letting someone in? “ Bailey clenched her jaw before she reached down, taking the heels off. Clearly there wasn’t going to be any dancing tonight. “ Oh come ON..Bailey, you can’t put walls up with this guy. I’m pretty sure he was trained to climb over those,or blow them up or..some sexy man shit with…with his chest all sweaty…and..just…. dirty and.. all testeroned out. Give me a minute,” he said while fanning himself. ” Are you okay? Are we back to Earth now? Are you still sexing him in your mind or can we be in the present moment?” she asked while stepping back into her uggs. “ I’m just saying if you get a chance to nail him, you need to. I need you to do this for me since I can’t, I want to live through you. Tell me.. is he a good kisser? What are his lips like?” he asked. Bailey sighed as she picked her bag back up, twisting it around her body as she put the strap on her opposite shoulder. “ They’re addictive,” she said with a slight shake of her head, leaving the man who was still fanning himself behind in the dimly lit studio. Bailey bit the edge of her own lip, taking her phone out and scrolling down her contact lists. She narrowed her eyebrows, looking down at his name lit up across the screen. It would be so easy to hit dial. But didn’t the risk of saying hello to somebody come with the guarantee of having to say goodbye? Bailey stood still for a few moments, taking in a deep breath before she locked her phone, throwing it into the cupholder instead of calling him. Willie was probably free to do something for the afternoon; whatever it was she needed to get her mind off things. Because he was partially right ; this was the first time since she was fifteen that she was feeling the pressure to not chase after something ‘exciting’. The idea of renting a movie and ordering a pizza with this guy would feel normal. And what was so wrong with that? Except the idea of it made her sick to her stomach. Not because of who it would be with, but because the idea of settling down and becoming dormant terrified her. Gabe had been a great boyfriend; but she was pretty sure they both understood it wouldn’t be long term. Clearly her and Anthony felt the same way. But Liam? What right did he have getting inside her head? They worked together, they did a movie. And all of the sudden she was skipping dance rehearsals? She couldn’t even stand him…right? Bailey bit the edge of her lip again, noticing the raw sting of her newfound habit. She needed Willie and Jack Daniels. That would be a great start to her night.
“ I don’t think it’s appropriate to say things like that,” Bailey said, taking her ipod out of her duffel bag so she could shuffle through and try to find some music for either inspiration or to actually pick as a song to dance to. “ So what about Liam?
