“ Mama!” Willie said trying to pull his head to the side as she tried licking her hand and smoothing his hair down yet again. “ I swear to God, mama” he started off before the short little woman in front of him lifted her eyebrow. “ You best not be swearing to God, William. Now you go out, and you be respectful. You listen to what Luke says and you can keep an eye on your sister and Anabelle. You understand what I’m telling you, Junior?” she asked before holding both of his cheeks in her hands and kissing both sides of his face. As she leaned in to whisper goodbye to him he felt part of his heart sink. “ You remember why you’re back home.. you remember who you need to take care of tonight. You be good, baby. I couldn’t imagine a world without one of my babies in it…” she said. Willie let his cheek rest against her shoulder before he wrapped his arms around her and gave her as tight a hug as possible. “ Alright get over here,” he said looking over at Luke’s mama and proceeded to go and give her a hug after she finally let go of the deathgrip she had on Luke.Willie ran his hand over his head as they walked out onto the porch and looked over at Luke, casting him a question as he headed towards his own truck. “ Your mama lick your head, too?” he questioned but stopped short, giving a small nod as he saw Anabelle smoothing the back of Luke’s head. “ Alright i’ll see you at the bar, man,”. Willie climbed into the cab of his truck, taking a moment to take in a deep breath and sighed to himself quietly. This was a hell of a reason to be home. He brought his thumb up, scratching the edge of his cheekbone of he thought of the last time he had seen her. Trying to put the moves on her in her hospital bed just to see if he could get a smile out of her. He felt his eyes starting to water up before he coughed quickly, lifting his hat and readjusting it. Willie brought his hands up to his face and traced them over his eyes quickly before he started the truck and made his way down the familiar dirt roads until he got to the small town. He could hear the country music belting out of those poorly structured walls. How the hell had this place not fallen apart yet? But there was thing about this place ; it sure as hell sounded like home, even if it was a few miles out and in Nashville. Willie gave a nod to Luke as they stepped inside, quick to already order a beer for himself, Luke and Anabelle. There was not a chance in the flamy existence of hell that he was going to let Luke pay for a god damn thing tonight. Willie brought the beer to his lips, taking a drink as he handed Luke’s beer out to him, shaking his head at how Anabelle was hugging the bartender. “ That ever drive you batshit crazy?” he asked with a slight gesture towards Luke’s wife. “ Well hells bells, fancy seeing you two here. We thought you two would have gone Hollywood on us by now,” some drunk asshole at the bar said, causing Willie to look down at his outfit then Luke’s, and the cheap beer in their hands. “ I suppose you don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about. But that ain’t no surprise, your wife said you didn’t know what to do in the bedroom either. Don’t worry, I fucked her brains out real good so you two were on the same level. You’re welcome” he said before ducking behind Luke and moving across the bar to get away from the situation. During his hasty getaway he knocked into a small little thing, causing him to take a step back. “ Sorry about that ma’am,” he started off but then groaned and tilt his head back upon seeing who it was. “ Why are you like the world’s worst case of herpes… flaring up at the worst possible times in my life..” he asked bluntly to her before lifting the beer to his lips. “ Come on now, Willie… it wasn’t all bad,” that damn beautiful voice echoed from the lips of his ex-girlfriend. “ I’m pretty sure when I think of it… horse shit comes to mind. Right now.. I’m seeing a horse literally shit. That was our relationship,” he said, his tone calm and steady. Willie looked up, giving a slight nod to a few people before looking back down at her. “ Look, I’ve tried calling. And I’ve tried texting. I’ve TRIED telling you how sorry I was, Willie.. if you could just..forgive me for what I said.. and for how I acted..” she started off but Willie held up his hand. “ I’m gonna go ahead and stop you right there, peaches. It sounds like you’ve got a lengthy speech. But I don’t want to keep you here all night since you’ve got a long trip back to hell to get to. Get goin,” he said before lifting his eyebrows slightly and moving away from her. Willie took in a deep breath, finishing off his beer in just a few more drinks before he headed back to the bar to get another. Outfit

Carrie pushed her face from her hair as she opened the back door to the cab and let herself out. Her dad had offered to let her drive his truck into town since she had some shopping she needed to get done – she wanted to buy a necklace for Luke’s mom that had his sister and nephew’s birthstone on it. Technically Anabelle had given her the idea. With a wink. Annoying little shit that woman was. But she didn’t feel like driving some rusty truck around town. Especially not in this outfit. Carrie sighed, looking at the outside of the bar with slight annoyance. “ Alright,” she said under her breath, opening the door and almost being overwhelmed by loudness, beer and the smell of… the South. Carrie cringed slightly, scrunching her nose as she walked inside and took a quick look around. “ You lost sugar?” someone yelled off from their barstool. “ I wish,” she muttered under her breath while taking a look around. She wouldn’t even have come out here tonight if her mom hadn’t insisted that she go out and spend time with her brother. Being back in this town was hard enough. Especially when it came with having to say goodbye to somebody. Carrie moved her way towards the bar carefully, doing her best to not touch or run into anyone on her way there. “ Ah,” she said to herself, taking a napkin off of the bar counter and wiping it down before setting her clutch on it. “ Um, excuse me.. May I have a Vesper martini please? Thanks,” she said while tapping her hands on the counter. She waited for a moment before taking the martini glass from the bartender. “ Thank you,” she said before pushing her hair over her shoulder and turning to look for Willie. She blinked, spotting Luke and Anabelle, forcing her to take in a deep breath before she placed on a forced smile and made her way over. “ Luke…..” she said, dropping her smile as she looked to his side. “ Anabelle,” she said with a small nod. “ Luke this is your song, right?” she said, tilting her head towards the music. She smiled slowly as she narrowed her eyes at him. “ You remember when you and I used to ride in trucks? We did lot of riding in trucks,.. In fact I think that was one of our favorite places to ride,” she said with a suggestive smile. “ I don’t know how you drink out of those glasses so easily. I’m always was so dad-gum clumsy that I just spilled them all over the place. I’m sure that’s why I’m still just a silly whiskey girl. I don’t look anywhere as fancy as you,” Anabelle said in her sickening sweet southern accent. “ Shocker,” Carrie said bluntly with a blink. She felt the splash on her arm before she realized that someone had bumped into her, causing her to spill her martini on her arm and made a face of disgust before she looked over her shoulder at the guilty party. She was just about to start cursing them out when Anabelle took over. She lift her eyebrow, looking over at Luke as his wife started to wipe her arm down and was saying something about club soda. Anabelle clapped her hands together quietly out of excitement as they stood by the bar. She still didn’t understand the altercation between Willie and some guy sitting at the bar, but Luke seemed to handle it easy enough. Anabelle gestured to a bar stool she had saved for him so he could sit at it. Anabelle wait until he sat down before she perched herself up on his knee and wrapped her left arm behind his back. Leaning down she kissed the edge of his shoulder and caressed her hand back and forth over his shoulders. She pushed over the beer that Willie had gotten for her in front of Luke so he could drink it. She liked beer just as much as anyone else, but if she had a drink of choice it was whiskey. “ Hey darlin’, whenever you get a free second do you mind if I order a jack coke?” she asked with a bright smile. “ Thank you so much, you take your sweet time though. It ain’t a rush, y’all seem pretty busy,” she said, waving it off before she rest against Luke’s side. This was the biggest thing that had ever rocked his world; and it was shaking up his family. Every part of her heart ached for him. “ Love you, baby” she whispered into his ear before she squeezed her arm around him tightly. Anabelle gasped quietly as they set the drink down in front of her. “ Thank you so much. Y’all work so hard,” she said while shaking her head. People just barking orders at them and they just handled it so quickly. Anabelle took a small drink from the glass, offering it out to Luke incase he wanted to take a sip. She looked over her shoulder, hearing a feminine voice call out Luke’s name before she spotted Carrie. She smiled brightly as she focused in on her, adjusting the way she was sitting in Luke’s lap. Anabelle narrowed her eyebrows as Carrie spoke to Luke. That was weird, something about the way she was speaking seemed off. At least, she didn’t like the feeling it put in her stomach. It was probably just the stress of the funeral and worryin’ for Luke’s family. But at any rate, Anabelle spoke up, complimenting Carrie on her ability to maneuver such a tricky glass when she had never been able to master it. Anabelle set her drink down as Carrie’s own martini got splashed against herself, hopping out of Luke’s lap. “ Bless your heart… “ she said to Carrie, looking up at the bartender, “ Sweetie, can I get a napkin and some club soda? Thank you so much,” she said, grabbing a napkin from the counter and dipping it into the glass of club soda as the bartender was setting the glass down. Anabelle narrowed her eyebrows as she concentrated on wiping the martini off of the side of Carrie’s dress before she stood up straight and looked between Carrie and Luke, awkwardly setting the napkin down. Why did it feel awkward? “ Um..” she said, wiping her hands on the side of her jeans. Moments like this always caught Anabelle off guard, she never understood uneasy feelings like this. Anabelle brought her hand up, slowly pushing hair from her face before she lift her eyebrows. “ Baby, dance with me,” she said, just wanting to get away from the situation. Anabelle reached for his hand to pull him off of his stool. This was the first place they met, the first time she heard him sing. She never got to dance with him that night, but she knew it would be special to hold onto that moment tonight –to have his song playing over the speakers, and to wrap her arms around him. Since We Rode In Trucks was still playing she took advantage of the slightly slow song, pressing herself up against his body as she wrapped her arms behind him and held onto his strong back with her cheek against his chest. This had been a year of change for Luke. In such a short amount of time he had risen to fame, been married, and now.. lost his sister. Anabelle felt her heart aching for him again, the man she loved more than absolutely anything in the world as she stood up on her toes. She wrapped her arms around his neck, bringing her hand into the back of his hair as she pressed her lips against his to kiss him. Outfit
