“ Are you here with anyone tonight? Did you bring a date?” the Entertainment Tonight reporter asked before putting the microphone near Bailey. “ No!” she said enthusiastically before laughing uncomfortably. “No it’s just little old me,” she said, bringing her hand up to twirl her earring out of a nervous habit. “ Well I gotta tell ya, this is a gorgeous red carpet. You and your co-stars look absolutely stunning. After so much sand time it must be nice to be able to dress up and throw on a pair of heels,” the girl said. “ I think Liam has been waiting for the day that he can throw on his pair of heels,” Bailey said jokingly before she looked over her shoulder to see if any of her co-stars were around. “ The chemistry between you two in this movie is so explosive. And it’s pretty crucial to the story. How is the story you two told different than any of the other Sparks books?” the reporter asked. Bailey narrowed her eyebrows, she hated answering questions like this by herself. “ You know I think… I think this one, despite the twist ending, is a little more…realistic. You know, this isn’t the Notebook, this isn’t The Last Song – which are great movies and great stories. But this isn’t their ‘first love’. They’re adults and they’ve both had a love that they thought was going to last for the rest of their lives and it’s torn away from them for one reason or another. They’ve experienced more out of life and are more conscious of their actions and behaviors because of that, they’re a little more guarded. “ she said, before catching herself short, realizing it felt like she was almost talking about herself and Liam. “ Um..” she said, having lost her train of thought. “ They um..” she said, closing her eyes as she tried to get her thoughts back. But all she could think of was him pinning her against the tree during production and kissing her. “ I uh..” she said, taking in a deep breath before giving another uncomfortable laugh. “ I am so sorry, I can’t seem to think straight,” she said offering an apologetic smile. “ Congratulations on the premiere, the movie looks fantastic.” the reporter offered before Bailey thanked her genuinely and made her way down the press line.
Bailey looked over her shoulder, catching Liam’s eye just for a moment before she was being ushered to another reporter. It felt weird, that this was a ‘date’ and she couldn’t be near him right now. “ Bailey, you look absolutely stunning tonight. Tell us you aren’t wasting the dress just on us. Who are you here with tonight?” they questioned and Bailey lift her shoulders before dropping them with a sigh, “ I am not actually. I am stag,” she said before offering a polite smile. “ Well you look great. Did you and Liam have a lot of toning up to do before the movie? Because from the trailer.. you’re both looking crazy fit,” he said before holding the microphone out to Bailey. “ Oh wow, thank you, she started, “I didn’t really bump up my routine at all. I already do a lot of dancing. But.. it was kind of funny. Liam and I sort of .. I mean we KNEW we’d be on the beach a lot, but probably like three weeks before shooting started the director called Liam and was like ‘ You know you’re going to be shirtless, right?’ and of course.. poor Liam.. of course he’s going to be shirtless! But I don’t think too many women are complaining.” she said pointedly before offering a laugh. “ Maybe he’s the guy to ask a few fitness tips from,” he offered and Bailey nodded in agreement. “ He probably is!” she said before tilting her head to the side as she listened to the reporter. “ So what was your favorite scene to film during the movie?” he asked and Bailey perked up. “ I think.. a lot of people don’t realize that a lot.. a lot of this movie was improvised. I mean there’s a scene where we were literally shooting for a half hour and I had no script, I was making it up on the spot, opening up to Liam’s character about something that I personally have never experienced, so it was.. There was a lot of improvisation on the set. I’m really fortunate because it was also during the scenes that weren’t so “tense” persay. Um.. There’s a scene, and I don’t want to ruin it, but there’s a scene that’s a very special moment for the two characters. They sort of share a little dance, and it’s a very soft, caring moment where they are both just so willing to let their guards down. And he surprised me! He’s a pretty good dancer,” she said , leaning in to try and hear the reporter as she tried to block out the noise of the fans. “ And how does he rate to the other men you’ve danced with?” he asked, causing Bailey to make a face and wave him off like it was nothing. “ Best dance of my life,” she said before she smiled softly. “ The last two major films you’ve done, your co-stars have had interesting pasts. Gabe Atherton is a very successful dancer, Liam’s story has been over the news since the day he came home from overseas. What is it like to work with someone with such a different past and does it effect the feeling of the set?” he asked and Bailey narrowed her eyebrows slightly in frustration. “ I mean we’re all… we’re all different, and we all come from different pasts. What Liam did for our country is beyond respectable and is something none of us could ever thank him enough for ; but he’s also someone who is trying to move on with his life. I wouldn’t say it necessarily effected our set; but your past, no matter what it is, effects who you are as a person. And Liam is a hell of a person. He’s hard working, he’s talented, he’s nice to everyone on set. He’s sort of a quiet person, a little reserved. But he is a great actor to work with, he’s a great person to be able to call your friend. I mean from his films in the past, or projects he’s working on now.. I’m sure I’m different than his co-stars. They probably aren’t standing in fifth position at any given moment, or ready to Samba every time a song comes on. He was a lot more professional on set than I was. He’s calm, collected, respectful. Almost every girl on set had a crush on him. And almost every guy wanted to be him. He’s a guy’s guy.” she said before smiling. “ What do you think his favorite scene is from the movie?” Bailey lift her eyebrows, no one had asked her that before. “ You know what,.. I would say it’s a scene that I don’t want to give away. But his character does something very heroic.. and it would be the perfect scene for a boy to say was their favorite,” she said before giving a joking face and saying, “ I mean or I could say the scene where he lays one on me, but there’s a couple of those,” she said, offering a small wink before she said her goodbyes and started to make her way to what was supposed to be the last interview before she could go inside; MTV.
Instead of them asking her a question right away it seemed to be temporarily stalled, which didn’t really matter to Bailey anyways. She took her phone out of her purse real quick to text Willie back who had been texting her since he got on the carpet himself. When she finished putting her phone away and looked up she realized what was taking so long. They were waiting for Liam to finish up his other interview so they could do this one together. As he finally approached, Bailey offered him a small smile. He was so charismatic with people. Now she just felt like an idiot. She looked down at his tie, reaching up to adjust it and smooth it down so it looked better before she looked straight ahead at the interviewer. “ Bailey, Liam this has got to be an exciting night for the both of you. What has been your favorite moment about this film?” Bailey looked at Liam, opening her mouth slightly to see if he was going to answer first before giving a slight shrug of her shoulder. “ For me it’s kind of a toss up. It’s great that it’s out and the fans finally get a chance to see it, that’s why we worked so hard.. so we could bring a story to life that people are already in love with and that they want to see put up on a screen. So that aspect of it is great.. but I think I’ll miss filming in North Carolina the most. We had a lot of fun on set. It’s a little strange to see Liam walking around on the concrete of New York instead of out on the sand during filming,” she said before looking over at him and rocking back on her heels slightly. “ I think my favorite part about filming was probably the location. A lot of times they build these ‘sets’ in bigger cities, but we got to actually film in a small town and get to experience what it was like being from one. There were definitely a few restaurants that we became regulars at. Being on the coast, the food was pretty amazing so I’ll definitely miss that part of filming,” he said. Bailey watched him as he spoke, lifting her hand to her earring and twirled it again, “ I mean we can always go back to the restaurants,” she said as though that was slightly silly before looking back at the interviewer. “Bailey, you’ve had the opportunity now to work with some pretty eligible bachelors at the time in Hollywood. Out of your former co-star Gabe and your current co-star who would you say is the better kisser?” he asked and Bailey narrowed her eyebrows as she looked upward to look at Liam. ” Oooh.” she said almost menacingly before taking in a breath. “ That is.. a good question,” she said , scrunching her nose up a bit for a moment. “ I mean it’s two completely different things. With Gabe there was the fun in the innocence of the kiss with him, it’s a teenage thing, there’s fun to it . And Liam is.. it’s uh..” she said , trying to stall as thoughts were racing through her head. “ I mean the passion is a bit different here. It’s a Nicholas Sparks movie. It’s heightened. So.. they’re both great.” she said, closing her eyes as she shook her head at the awkwardness. “ Sort of a cop out for an answer. Liam, from your acting days, how does Bailey rank on your list of kissers?” he asked, causing Bailey to lift her eyebrow as she looked up at Liam.
“ I’m going to go ahead and say she is at the top of the scale. It’s Nicholas Sparks, come on. “ Liam said simply before Bailey scoffed and looked at the interviewer like that was a crock of shit. “ Katherine Heigl was in that last movie.. She’s been in a lot of romantic comedies. And I would like to point out that I topped the list. So.. Oscar be damned, suck it Heigl,” she said jokingly before rubbing her lips together to smooth over her lip gloss. “ When it comes to the whole ‘Nicholas Sparks’ concept, it seems like you sort of enter this.. exclusive club when it comes to romance movies and the actors that portray these beloved characters. Bailey, your ex, Anthony Owens, is close friends with Natalia Richmond and Ethan Fox. Do you feel that you guys have entered an exclusive club of romance characters that other novels and movies hail in comparison to?” he asked. Bailey opened her mouth, slightly caught off guard by the fact that they would bring up Anthony. “ Um..” she started before clearing her throat. “ Well I mean Nicholas Sparks is sort of in it’s own league. I’ve met Natalia a couple times before, she’s a nice girl. Ethan’s great.. I think..” she started off before gesturing her thumb to Liam as she looked at him. “ I think the boys might have more of a ‘Sparks Club’ than the girls do. You were hanging out with Ethan at a party pretty recently. I think giving him advice, right?” she asked, trying to get the subject off of herself. “ Yeah, Ethan and I are friends. I don’t mind being chums in a club with him.” Liam said with a personable smile. Bailey smiled before she looked back at the interviewer. “ And did you two come with a date?” he asked. Bailey bit the inside of her cheek. She could not get away from that damn question. “ Yep,” she said shortly, probably coming off as a little tense. “ And where is he?” he asked, causing Bailey to step to the side slightly and hold her hands up to Liam like she was Vanna White. “ Ta dah” she said before taking her place next to him. “ You guys came as each others dates?” he asked to clarify. “ It seemed like a um.. perfect way to end the experience,” she said, with a quizzical look up at Liam. “ So are you two dating?” he asked. “ Umm..” Bailey said, tensing up as she brought her hand to the back of her neck uncomfortably and looked to Liam. But as he wrapped his around her she felt the nerves in her stomach start to ball up as she held her breath, keeping her eyeline on her feet. Maybe her shoes were interesting. “ We’re at the end of the road here. I’ll be sad when I don’t come into work and see her beautiful face every day. Dating might be my only hope if I don’t have work as an excuse anymore,” he said before another damn charming grin. Bailey blinked to herself, trying to understand what he was saying. Judging by the silencer the interviewer was trying to figure it out as well. Still feeling his hand on her body, she looked up with an over-enthusiastic smile, laughing louder than someone her size should as she pat her hand against his chest lovingly. “ We gotta go inside,” she said, cutting the interview off at the knees before she placed her hand on the arm of the interviewer, kissing his cheek before making a break from her quick cut-off. Bailey looked over her shoulder at Liam who was following her and shook her head slowly at him, slowing down so he could catch up. “ Smooth,” she said , half rudely and half appreciatively. At least he had taken over and said something, got the interviewer to shut up.
Today had been sort of nice actually. When he showed up, her half ready and completely surprised that he was actually there, things still seemed a little tense. She had a feeling they might for a while; they’d really gotten under each others skin last night. “ Come here,” she said, taking his hand and pulling him towards the staircase. Everyone was taking seats already and since Footloose had a premier here, she remembered the layout pretty well. Chances were Liam had been here a time or two as well. Bailey moved quickly, pulling him by his hand as she finally found the closed off balcony seating at the top of the theater. Bailey stepped inside, opening the curtain slightly to look down at everyone. “ Wow,” she said underneath her breath. There were so many people. Bailey held onto the curtain as she looked over her shoulder to smile at him. “ …. Do you think they would notice if we weren’t down there?” she asked before smiling slowly. Of course they would notice. The real question was, did he care? She didn’t. Bailey bit the edge of her lip as she looked down at her hands. She could put herself out there for a change, mix it up. He had after all. “ I think these might be the best seats in the house,” she offered, placing her arms behind her back. Bailey dropped her hands back to the side, picking up the fabric of her dress as she took the few steps to be closer to him. “ I spend a lot of my time doing what I want without thinking of consequences,” she said, deciding not to dive into it in great depth since she had told him how controlling her father had been growing up. “ Trying to let my guard down with you, makes me feel like I’m not…” she said, trying to think of the word before she shook her head. “ Safe,” she settled with. Unsafe. That was a perfect way to describe how she felt about letting him in, letting him get to know her. “ I want to run from you, but I also kind of want to kiss you,” she said quietly before looking down at her hands. Bailey narrowed her eyebrows, letting her shorter haircut fall into the sides of her face before she finally lifted it. “ Do you think that you could find some snacks for us?” she asked, catching her breath for a moment before she took a step back from him, offering a small smile. “ Hurry back,” she offered. Bailey waited until he left, closing her eyes and letting out a slow breath. She had told him that he made her want to run, but then she also made it clear by inviting him to come back with snacks to a secluded area, that she was sticking around. But it still felt like someone had punched her in the stomach.
