Dani pushed her hair from her face after taking off her sunglasses and walking towards the building. “Miss Cooper,” someone greeted her with a bright smile. “ Hey, how are you?” she asked with a smile of her own to match as she walked in. She was in the midst of her tour and doing interviews while in different countries, while something she was obligated to do, was also a lot of fun. She waited as her stylist came onto the elevator with her, checking her phone while trying to remind herself that she also needed to email Logan. Everything had just started, and she felt like she needed a break. She wasn’t going to take one now, not yet. Her and Joel were similar like that in a lot of ways. Her goal of getting Jake to notice her, to be proud, to give him a woman who exuded confidence..that was accomplished.But now she needed to see it through. It wasn’t in her blood to stop when she was on top. Not that Blake ever really let her think that she was on top. “ Here,” her stylist said as she started adjusting some of her clothes before she even got off the elevator.” And here is a list of some of the questions,”. Dani looked up from her phone momentarily. Scanning a few of the talking points, twerking style of dancing, Blake doing the Victoria Secret show, Shane’s wife being pregnant again at such a young age. “ White girls have lost their god damn minds,” she said, shaking her head while looking at the guy in the elevator. “ I won’t talk about what’s going on in people’s life unless it’s a supportive way, and that sounds like a boring interview for you guys,” she said before going back to her phone. When the elevator doors opened, Dani looked up and smiled brightly at the interviewer who met her at the floor. “ Oh my gosh you look great,” Dani said happily as she stepped out and hugged her. Dani started walking again, handing her phone off to her stylist after sending Jake one last text. It was always fun to her to see people running around for interviews, trying to get cameras set. It always reminded her of Wizards of Waverly Place. And then it always made her homesick for Jake.. Dani took in a deep breath and smiled as someone told her where to sit, asking her if she needed something to drink. ” No, thank you though.” she answered, adjusting the pillow as she sat down. She felt bad, being late in the first place. Normally she would have a better chance to go through wardrobe and sit down with the interviewer before it actually took place. But she had stopped at a childrens hospital and spent more time there than she planned. So in the grand scheme of things… she didn’t feel too bad about being late, but enough that if anyone felt rushed or an inconvenience at her timing, she felt bad for them.
Dani spent the next few moments adjusting the rings on her fingers, her earrings, re-crossing her legs, fluffing her hair, redoing her lip gloss. Just like that the interviewer was sitting down beside her and putting on her own smile. ” Thanks for joining us back at Daybreak. We have with us American singer Dani Cooper.. How are you enjoying your time in London?” she asked. Dani smiled, ” It’s great really. It gives me a better understanding of how Libby and Charlie must feel, having your own accent and then being surrounded by everyone else who has a completely different one. But it’s beautiful. I love listening to all of you talk,” she said before relaxing into the seat. “ Our accents are the only thing that is keeping you interested here? Thank God you didn’t say the food, we all know that would be a lie.” she said with a slight smirk. Dani grinned, “ The sight seeing is great, too. It just feels a lot more..elegant than where I’m originally from,” Dani said, licking the inside of her lip. “Where you’re from and where you are now must be a drastic change. How is your tour going?” Dani lift her eyebrows and smiled broadly, “ It’s great, I’m absolutely in love with the entire crew. And I’m fortunate that I was able to sit down with Logan Renner and just craft out the entire thing from beginning to finish to make sure it was exactly what I wanted and what I felt like the fans would want to,” And maybe what Jake wanted… “ Well there has certainly been a transformation with your image. How do you compare your new ‘sexy’ image to the ones that your peers are obtaining?” There it is. She still wanted to ask the question even when Dani had nixed it, so she just decided to ask it in a different way. “ You know, I’m a firm believer that everyone is beautiful. However they choose to express it is their own business, and however people choose to interpret it is their own business as well.” she said before smiling again, “ For my own transformation, I wanted it to be… honest. Honest to me and who I am, and what I felt like was an honest representation of what women are going through, which starts off with subtlety. I want people to listen to me and my music and take me seriously for what I’m trying to portray, and I don’t want sexuality to overcome that. I am more sexual, but I also have more to say. To me my voice is more important than my body. And I hope I am reaching out to girls that need to hear things… be confident, be who you are, express yourself, don’t let others tell you that you are incapable of something… and now that I’m older, hey.. if you are feeling a little sexier,…show it responsibly.” she said, beginning to bounce her foot anxiously.
“ And speaking of music, the first two releases off your album had a sexual vibe to them, which was new for your music. Which song off your new album is your favorite?” Dani knew they probably expected her to say Come and Get It. That was one of her favorite songs for a reason – Jake. But the public hadn’t even known that they had ‘split’ for a little bit. “ My favorite off the entire album is actually ‘Like A Champion’. It has the message of the music that I’ve always tried to do, while having an evolving more adult sound that my fans are growing with and is more relevant to them. And I just love… the embodiment of it. Maybe you’re not a champion right now, but walk like one…talk like one. You’ll get there. That’s what the entire label of Taboo is like. Each and every single one of us started from nothing.. but what set us apart from other artists, is that at every stage of our career, from every large venue we performed at, to the small stages in the beginnings of our careers….we held our heads high and walked like champions, we knew that we shine bright, and that we had fight, and everything else that the lyrics say. You’ll get where you want to go even if other people don’t believe in you, simply by believing in yourself. “ she finished, pushing some of her hair off of her shoulder. “ Your album has a large variety of songs. They all have such a different sound , and there’s even a few break up songs thrown in there. Where did the inspiration for those come from?”. Dani blinked, trying to collect her own thoughts. Dani and Jake had to defend their relationship once before, coming out after the series ended, proving that it was real and not some Disney concoction, discussing to an extent the parties like Lance that had been involved and hurt. But the details within the relationship had never really been discussed.
“ Jake and I are both such passionate people, in life, work, love. We each have opinions and we’re both very firm in them. But that’s what I love about him. If he believes something, he believes it full-heartedly. He doesn’t halfdo anything, he’s committed to a belief. So… there’s going to be ups and downs…with any relationship. But the beauty of Jake and I’s relationship is that, yes we are both insanely passionate people. Good and bad.. that has consequences. We will always bend, but we’ll never break. I can’t imagine my life without him at this point, and I’m not saying that because most girls do when they love someone. I’m saying it because.. I would not be who I am without him. Which sounds like a teenage girl as well.. but, he could be my friend, my lover, my neighbor… just someone I talked to every other weekend. I would need him in my life. He pushes me to be a better person. He pushes me to never settle for anything but the best. Everyone deserves someone who makes them feel that way. He’s the one that… I mean, the girls out there who can turn on the song and be reminded..walk like a champion, stand firm in who you are. That’s Jake in my ear, when I get home and I’m exhausted. He’s the voice in my ear. He’s the melody in my life that tells me to keep dreaming and to be courageous.”.
“ The dreams that you’ve had, that have led you away from Disney, how has that transition been? It’s been done in the past both horribly and successfully, how do you feel your transition is going?” Dani scratched her thumb against the inside of her ring finger. “ You know, I think all things aside the transition for me has been really easy. I’m thankful that when I go to interviews I get asked questions about my music, or my life even which is fine, versus what I wore at a club one night, drinking habits, whether or not I’m doing drugs, I don’t think my sexuality is overly in your face. You notice it, but it isn’t something preventing me from being a role model. I am not fourteen years old working on a Disney show anymore. I’m thankful for what they have given me and the platform that it gave me for more opportunities. However Logan Renner has now given me the opportunity to use my own voice and say what I want to with my own image ; which is that I am a young, intelligent, sexy woman. And I want others to know how intelligent and beautiful they are, too.” she paused before adding, “ Girls aren’t the only ones who transition from Disney. It’s just no one ever stops to ask about the guys and what they are doing. Jake and Lance are both… changing the world in their own ways. Jake is obviously still acting, but he’s been working on this amazing series about third world countries and things to do to help them.That should be getting more attention than absolutely anything I do on stage. Lance is primarily focusing on school and taking acting jobs on the side, but he’s going into school for international business and finance, which he hopes to incorporate someday into a philanthropic business partnered with Jake. No one asks about what the guys of Disney are doing… and they’re the ones doing the most.”
” You speak very highly of the people who surround you. Do you feel that same connection with the other artists atTaboo?” Dani gave a slight nod before she responded, “ The great thing about Taboo is that you have this collection of artists…who are just people. And they are just using their voice to write things that they care about and are relevant to them, and it turns out.. it’s relevant to other people as well. I mean everyone knows Blake’s story, and how she was this outcast lusting after something she thought was unattainable. She’s the artist who speaks out on love, and there isn’t a better artist for it. Then you have All Time Low and The Maine who I thinks main purpose is individuality, being who you are no matter what anyone thinks. They could honestly care less what someone’s opinion of them is, and neither should you. And it’s never been a secret of how much I love Ryan. I’m absolutely in love with him as a person. Sometimes it feels like he is a part of me. Our friendship is probably so strange to a lot of people, but to me.. Ryan is the embodiment of a bigger brother and a best friend all rolled in one. He’s one of the most fantastically amazing people on the planet. And then I mean,… Logan’s favorite. Joel.. he’s the voice of um… well, I mean does anyone actually listen to Joel’s music or do they just watch him move around?”she asked jokingly before clearing her throat. ‘ No I think… Joel is really good at…. God, I don’t know. Joel is good at everything. He’s mini Renner. His niche in Taboo I guess is being the dream guy. He’s the dream guy.. and his songs, yeah.. he sings what girls wish a guy would say to them. Oh my god.. the As Long As You Love Me video? I want that video. The concept. It’s amazing. And Libby in it? Sure, cast the most beautiful woman in the world. It’s ridiculous seeing Joel and Logan in the studio together. Logan loves all of his artists, he loves them. But I mean it. Get an inside look on Logan in a studio with Joel.. it’s amazing. He lights up. It’s beautiful.”
“ Well it sounds like you’ve surrounded yourself with a very close family. Which must mean a lot to you, having emancipated yourself from your parents at such a young age, are you looking to start your own family soon?” Dani gave a slight laugh, “Um. No.” she said while shaking her head. “ Jake and I are in such a great place. And he’s so spontaneous. If you wake up one morning, it’s not weird for him to have bags packed and just waiting at the door ‘ Hey want to go to Spain?’ and it just… that fits for us right now. The spontaneity, being able to just enjoy each other in our youth. It works for some people. Claire and Shane couldn’t imagine their life without kids, and I think Jake and I couldn’t imagine a life with kids right now. I think we are both a little too selfish with our time, and wanting it to be about each other. But eventually… I would love to have kids with that man. With his face? They’ll be gorgeous. How could I not….eventually” she said while smiling and giving a quick shake of her head. “ But if there’s anything I’ve learned in life so far it is that everything comes in its’ own time and to appreciate what is front of you, to take control of that moment. I’ll enjoy every moment I can with him, with my career, with everything.” she finished, biting the edge of her lip. “Well I think it is safe to say that your fans are enjoying every moment you’ve put into this tour and this album.
