It had been three years since Lance enrolled in college. In that time he had managed to get a Bachelors in Business with a minor in foreign languages ; Chinese. Being a Renner meant never knowing how to sit still. If someone gave you a timeline to finish something, you beat it. In fact, he was very particular about planning everything in his life. His friends often teased him, calling him ‘ the hair ‘, because it took him longer to get ready than it took for Kiersten to get ready. He planned his outfits out the night before. He liked planning the exact route they would be taking if they were to go on a road trip. The thing was, it was about complete control. Ever since his rehab stint and the things that he realized he could lose, it became about control. There were still bad days, when Kiersten would come home and quietly pick up a flask of Scotch and curl up beside him. And she had her bad days as well. But they had a calm, quiet way of understanding one another. Their friendship had started off so playful and young. While they still had those elements in their relationship, it was interesting to watch them evolve into a couple with a bit more ground beneath them. They had become quite the sophisticated, cultured, young couple. When Kiersten was feeling down, Lance would light a fire before curling up beside her on the couch and reading off poetry until she fell asleep against his chest. Those nights, where they could turn something bad into something beautiful, were his favorite. They had more money than ‘kids’ their age should, and on a Friday night they were more likely to be seen at the side of Riley and Mackenzie, rubbing elbows with the finest, instead of choosing to beer bong it up with others who were just as lost as they were. I Lance and Kiersten were lost, at least it was with eachother.
For now, Lance and Kiersten were vacationing in England. He would be starting graduate school soon to further his education by getting a masters in Business. And Kiersten.. well everything she did was magical in Lance’s opinion, but she was furthering her own education and musical talent in the fall. They were really coming along. It was a different perspective of England this time around. He wasn’t behind the confinement of a rehab or boarding school, he wasn’t begging Logan to take him home, he wasn’t walking in the backstreets looking for a high. No, he was standing on a balcony of a suite that cost more per night than most peoples yearly rent. Lance took a sip from his coffee cup, turning to go back into the suite where he found Kiersten looking in the fridge. At least she had an appetite. Lance stood behind her, wrapping his arm around her waist and placed his hand on her hip as he leaned down to gently kiss the side of her neck. “ Good morning, love” he said quietly before standing up straight. Lance turned her around slowly before placing her against the fridge door with a coy smile on his lips. “ I was hoping you would rest in. I have that meeting ..well, several actually. I still can’t decide if I should study at King’s College, Imperial…London Business School..” he said trailing off, “ Or… better yet, if I stay in New York and finish a graduates program there.” he said, leaning down to give her a quick kiss. “ I won’t bore you with those tedious academic meetings at the universities. I did however set up a day for you including the spa, and several museum opportunities which may or may not include some of the finest amphitheaters in the world..” he said with a slight wiggle of his eyebrows. “I left an itinerary on the desk in the office, love. I’ll be sending a car to pick you up for dinner. I left you something to wear.” Lance said before he stopped himself, turning to go back to her. He smiled slowly as he looked down at her, placing his hand against her cheek. “ I promise today is my last day of business. Tomorrow will be all about our vacation together,”
Lance stood in front of the mirror, having finally finished his hair and was buckling down the last few things of his appearance. His button up blue shirt was crisply ironed, his Tiffany’s cufflinks were straightly in place. He cleared his throat, clasping his Rolex watch in place before he drew a quick breath and made his way out of the suite to go start his day of meetings. The entire day was spent with Lance looking down at his watch, trying to count down the hours until he was able to finally see Kiersten again and take her out to a nice meal. He still didn’t know where his head was at as far as universities went. But he did have an inkling that he would be staying in New York – it’s where their family was. Lance looked down through his phone as he stood outside one of the buildings that reminded him of the Brownstones in New York. He looked up, spotting the black car as it pulled up to the curb and smiled. He immediately placed his phone in his pocket before making his way over to the car, “ I’ve got it, thank you” he said to the driver before opening Kiersten’s door for her. “Hello love,” he said again, leaning down to give her a quick kiss on the cheek before he took a step back and offered her a hand to get out of the car. “ I’m glad you found the dress,” he said with a bit of a smirk on his lips, “ Breathtaking,” he said in reference to how she looked.
“ I promise that we are going to dinner, I just wanted to look at a few properties here in London first,” he said with an apologetic face. Lance took her hand before leading her up the stairs to the entrance of the home. “ Not that I have made any decisions about school, but I figured that it didn’t hurt to get a taste for the real estate,” he said, letting Kiersten step inside the home. Lance took a couple of steps away to look at the different rooms with his hands in his pockets. “ Darling, a piano could probably be nestled in front of the window here,” he said as he stepped into an open area. Lance looked over his shoulder at Kiersten, waiting for her to step further into the room. “ I mean.. if you would like a home here. I know we already have one in New York. But as we get older it might be nice to have more options and vacation homes.” he said, waiting until her back was to him. “I’m hoping to expand our life together, Kiersten. To make it better. You’ve been many things to me, a best friend, a girlfriend, a partner in crime. I’m hoping you’ll agree to be my wife,” he said, holding the ring up between the two of them.
