There had to be a reason why Blake had been gone so long. As of this moment, the last her fans had seen her had been six weeks ago. A month and a half of complete isolation from the people who supported her. But in the time she had come home, she felt like she was halfway there. It had been countless hours of watching interviews, learning her own songs, learning her own mannerisms. What fascinated her most about her relationship with Logan was that her fans felt that they were a part of it, it seemed like. They were like America’s Sweethearts, except he was a little less sweet, and a lot more sexy. It was astonishing what he had accomplished with their images, really. Blake took in a deep breath as she looked at the door to the boardroom. So since she didn’t want her fans to know everything that was going on in her life, she needed a plausible reason as to why she had been so busy. Releasing four music videos next week seemed like it outta do it.
Blake pushed her hair from her face, trying to have the confident pose that she had evidently owned over the last five years. She pressed down on the door handles and entered the room. A concept for each video was sprawled across each wall of the room, along with its’ creative team. Blake looked over her directors, Mackenzie, Shane, Tyler, and Logan and Jake. She could have used the Collin boy that Logan spoke about, but she wanted to keep this as much in the family as she could get it. The sequence of videos in the order she was going to shoot them was Blank Space, Shake It Off, Style and then finally Bad Blood. Bad Blood was going to take the most time and she figured that she would save it for last so that she can get used to this music video business.
Blake went over to the Blank Space concept first, giving a relieved sigh toward Mackenzie’s direction before wrapping her tightly in a hug. “ Thank you,” she whispered toward her. Mackenzie had been amazing over the last few weeks, teaching her choreography for the tour, being there whenever she needed her or had a question that she was too embarrassed to ask Logan. Which was most of them. “ Okay, so what are we looking at,” she said, before looking at some of the design concepts. Mackenzie was busy talking to someone when a woman approached her. “ Here are the wardrobe choices. We haven’t had a chance to run them by Mackenzie yet,” Blake narrowed her eyebrows as she took the board. “ This one isn’t regal enough. The lace should be long, not short. That makes it look cheap and tacky, which I doubt would be worn in a mansion unless you were a Kardashian pre Kanye West.” Oh yeah. She’d been catching up on reality television too. Blake blinked, looking at the girl. “ I am.. I am so sorry. That was incredibly rude.” The woman gave her a smile, shaking her head. “ No, you’ve always been firm about your opinion.” she said. Blake cringed slightly, trying to offer her a smile. She sighed, turning to look at Mackenzie. “ … Do people always listen to what I say?” She held her hands against her stomach as Mackenzie looked at her, “ It’s your music, your word is sort of the law”. Blake groaned, slightly uncomfortable with that amount of control, but yet, as she looked at something on the board she scrunched her nose. “ Not tigers. A horse. Mackenzie has more work with horses. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry” she said, putting her hands up and backing away. “ I have no idea what is getting into me. I swear I’m not normally this opinionated. I’m just gonna… I’m so sorry.” she said, wincing. “ I’m so sorry,” she said, adding one more before she turned to look at the rest of the concepts.
Blake stepped out of the car when they reached the location for the Blank Space video. The mansion was insanely beautiful, but the grounds were almost more impressive in her opinion. She’d been listening to the 1989 album on replay since she…well, woke up all those days ago. The idea behind Blank Space was that she was making fun of the media and how they had portrayed her relationship with Logan, on again off again, other boyfriends, being crazy. That was nice. But she smiled as she saw Mackenzie, waving in her direction. It was a good idea to have her best friend direct the first video. She could relax and have fun with it, just enjoy the experience. How many people could say that a day at work consisted of laughing your butt off with your best friend, pretending you were crazy, stabbing a cake, standing on a horse, carving up paintings. She’d demanded that Logan not be on this set,..or the next one for that matter. He made her too nervous, anxious. She’d spend the whole day blushing and in make up to try and cover it up. “There's days when Logan drives you up the wall, I know you have it in you somewhere, tap into it,” she said. Blake laughed, covering her hands over her face. The Logan she remembered never would have drove her crazy. The best part of her day though was the fake meltdown she had, taking a golf club to a car. If that didn’t relieve stress, there was nothing that would. But even on this video, so much focus was being on ‘insane’ that she never stopped for a moment to consider whether or not she was attractive in any of it. Being attractive had been the least of her concerns in high school, and it seemed like a silly thing to start worrying about today. The entirety of shooting for Blank Space took from Monday morning at 7 am, until 2 am that evening. Mackenzie worked nonstop alongside Blake and for that she would be forever grateful. That girl was absolutely an angel. Blake came home a little after 2 AM, moving quietly throughout the home. At first she walked past Logan’s guest bedroom, but found herself turning around, taking the couple of steps back quietly. She stared at the doorknob quietly for a moment, taking a nervous breath before turning it as slowly as possible before sticking her head in to check on him. It looked like he was sleeping….Shirtless, actually. Blake stood straight up, covering one of her cheeks with her hand before closing the door and scurrying off to her room.
Blake had five hours of sleep before finding herself in the studio that had been designed to film Shake It Off. They didn’t need much for Shane’s vision anyway. She was surprised to find out that this song had been inspired by Shane, because quite honestly their friendship still weirded her out. She didn’t understand it. It seemed like they had nothing in common; yet she had a song about shaking off what haters say to you. So apparently, she’d spent a lot of time confiding in him, in what she assumed was the start of her career. Since he had inspired the song, she was pleasantly surprised that she had paired him to direct it. “ Morning, Shane” she said, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek. She held out a coffee to him. “ I got you a blueberry scone… I don’t know why… Something inside of me said…’Feed Shane…’ I don’t….” she said, scrunching her nose as she lift her shoulder. “ I think you eat.” But thankfully he took it from her. “Oh, I eat everything you hand me. Go ahead and keep it coming. It’s been a long month and a half,” he said. Blake found herself laughing, shaking her head at him. He was calming, he had this amazing presence. Throughout the day, Blake realized what it was exactly about him that made her want to be friends with him. He was the first person she had encountered where she didn’t feel like she had to live up to something. Was she cool enough for Mackenzie? Was she pretty enough for Logan? Did Chad get embarrassed by her? But Shane…. Shane was out there making a fool of himself to make her laugh, and show her how to do silly dance moves. She found herself wrapping her arms around his shoulders as she looked at shots being played back. He was one of those people that she felt her heart instantly loved, because he made her feel immediately accepted, something she’d never felt before. No wonder she fed him, he fed her in so many ways. “ I’m finally a cheerleader,” she said sarcastically as she stepped out wearing the uniform for the final cut that they had to do. This shoot had been longer, more time consuming. It was more difficult than Blank Space only in the sense that even if she had a perfect shot, she was still counting on a lot more extras to be on point, too. So they all had to get it right, together. There had been two Taco Bell runs, and the evening ended with a few of Shane’s celebratory cocktails, which turned out to be more alcohol than anything else. So after Claire dropped her off at her home, she noticed that it was after 4 AM, and she was wearing a cheerleading uniform, trying to sneak into her home. Was this what high school cheerleaders felt like Saturday mornings? But when a light flipped on, she noticed that Logan was standing there, holding Kenzie with an amused grin on his face. Blake stood up straight, pushing her bangs from her face before holding her pom poms in front of her. A hiccup broke the silence between them , causing her to blush slightly. More silence. “ I was with Shane..” she said quietly, turning away from him before she hurried upstairs.
The alarm went off at 6 AM, causing Blake to groan into her pillow. “ No,” she said pointlessly before jumping out of bed and getting herself barely presentable. “ Bye!” she yelled over her shoulder. She got halfway down the sidewalk before she stopped. Wait, Logan was in today’s video. “ Oh,” she said, turning and going back. ” Hey, can I have a ride?” She smiled at Leah who had come in, she was watching the girls a lot for the next three days. She wondered what it was like to have siblings this helpful – though, technically, she supposed Leah was her sibling now. Okay. Style. This song was about her and Logan. And he was starring in the video with her. Blake sat in the passenger seat nervously, feeling her heart beating through her throat like it was trying to escape. She avoided looking in his direction, tightening her fingers so tightly around her knees that her knuckles turned white. When they got to the set she got out of the car, holding onto the top of the door slightly, biting the edge of her lip before looking up at him. “ I guess I um.. I’ll.. I’ll see you on set.. in there? That’s.. what we’re.. Okay.” she said, shutting the door before running off towards her trailer. This Tyler kid was young but Logan thought the world of him. “ I just need a lot of shots of you looking far off in the distance, think 80s perfume commercial.”. The tough part of this video was going to fall on Tyler’s shoulders because he had a lot of these really neat special effects that he wanted to accomplish. Blake had to admit, she was excited to see it all put together. Blake felt her wedding ring against her chest, where it was resting underneath her silk camisole as she came for the last scene she had to film for the day. It was surreal to listen to lyrics about Logan all day, only to be standing in the dark with him. She had her eyes closed tightly, focusing on the ring against her chest before she opened them slowly, looking at Logan who was standing shirtless in front of her. Moments felt like an eternity before Tyler spoke up. “ Blake, just try not to think. Turn you brain off, and just let it happen.”. But she hadn’t torn her eyes away from Logan as he spoke, and her breath felt like it wasn’t catching in her lungs. It was like he had literally taken every breath away from her. The music played and she swallowed hard, taking a shaky step closer to him so that when they got to the right part of the song she wouldn’t be standing three feet away from him. Even in the dark she could tell how much time he invested in the gym. But the moment his fingertips touched her skin, she felt a catch in her breath, looking down for a moment even in the darkness. Thank God makeup wasn’t needed for this scene. Literal fire set into her skin where his fingers were, which Blake had no problem with adjusting to before bringing her hands to his back, tracing her fingertips slightly up his back as they were supposed to lean in for a near kiss. Blake looked up, catching Logan’s eye and in that moment, she could’ve sworn Tyler was right. It felt like her brain had shut off, and the only thing that felt like home was staring directly into Logan’s eyes. In fact, in this dark moment, with the lyrics that explained how perfect he was for her, and the way his hands felt on her, she was almost confident that she could get lost in a kiss. But it was that exact moment that Tyler yelled cut. Blake blinked, snapping herself back to reality before taking a step back. She looked down at herself, covering her arms over her body, even though she was wearing a top, before turning and heading toward her trailer. When Blake got into the car, she closed her eyes, pretending to fall asleep almost immediately just to avoid any type of conversation that may end in Logan wanting to try and continue what had happened on set.
It was Thursday morning, and it was raining, hard. “MAMA…MAMA…pancakes!” Kenzie was yelling at the foot of the bed. Leah wasn’t here to watch them yet, which means that Logan must’ve wanted to spend some time with the girls. “ Okay…Okay.” she said, rubbing her hands over her eyes. She was supposed to go in later today to get down the last of the choreography for the fight movements before they started filming in the evening. It would go all through the night and through the next day. Blake put her robe on before coming downstairs, smelling that the pancakes were already made. She narrowed her eyebrows, looking at Logan before smiling slightly. “ You make pancakes…”
Blake pushed some hair behind her ear, going to get herself a glass of orange juice before looking back at Logan. “ Yeah they’re banana… It’s sort of a tradition when it’s raining with all of my girls.” he said. Blake held the glass to her lips, taking a long drink before setting it down. “ That’s really sweet,” she muttered slightly loud enough to hear before she helped Kenzie cut up some of her pancakes. “ Daddy. The guitar.” Kenzie said, looking at him pointedly. Blake narrowed her eyebrows in confusion, looking back at Logan who was giving Kenzie a kiss on her forehead and taking out the guitar. He sat on the counter, strumming along to the guitar, and it was all Blake could do but to pinch herself. There was no way this was real. Blake watched him, smiling slowly, and didn’t even realize herself that when he smiled at her too, it was the first time she hadn’t looked away.
Hours later, and still on cloud nine from this morning, Blake was exhausted from the final choreography routines. It was just about to turn 10 pm when she saw Logan for the first time, standing in the back with his arms crossed talking to Jake. Him and Dani seemed to have found their groove for as passionate of people as they seemed around one another. She couldn’t tell if they were about to start making out every moment, or going to strangle each other. She imagined that could be exciting. She watched Logan, waiting until his eyes met hers, and blushed, smiling slowly before she turned to talk to someone who was approaching her. He was so handsome, it just didn’t seem fair. Having Logan in the director’s seat was a slightly different experience than all of the others. It was like he had this complete vision and knew how everything would work, not how he hoped that it would. Apparently this song was about Shane, too. Or an experience he’d had with a psycho bitch. So in the spirit of being friends, she took a picture of herself in her first assassins outfit, sending a quick shot to Shane. There were a lot of looks that she liked in this video; mainly because they terrified her. This was the first time that she felt like Logan was actually watching her. And honestly…it was sort of exciting. The entirety of the filming felt like it was stolen glances between the two of them, which constantly sent a flutter of butterflies into her stomach. “You’re acting like you have a crush on your husband,” one of the girls said, causing Blake to laugh quietly. She was about to change for her last scene, a boxing one with Karlie Kloss. She made a confused face, looking at Logan. “ How do I know these models?” she questioned, “ You met them when you performed at the Victoria Secret Fashion Show,” he said. Blake blinked, ” I missed that one when I was studying…myself..” she said, blinking before looking back toward the group of women. Blake moved to the trailer, changing into her last outfit, allowing them to style her hair and redo her makeup. But when she was left alone, she stood, going over to the mirror. It was one thing for Logan to look at her, but she hadn’t really looked at herself. The entire time she’d been awake, she’d never noticed the changes in her body. In high school she had been so thin and lanky. And now, she was still thin, but as she turned sideways in the mirror, her arms and legs looked more toned, thank God her chest had grown. She touched her stomach, looking at how much she felt she had grown and matured. When she looked up, she saw Logan’s reflection in the mirror, before turning around. “ I’m sorry.. I was…Making sure it fits..” She said, placing her hand around her elbow. There was a pause of silence. “ It looks perfect,” he said. Blake smiled, keeping her eyes on him as the blush formed again. “ Thank you,” she said quietly. More silence. “ Oh, um. We’re ready for the last shot,” he said. Blake nodded, moving away from the mirror and followed him onto the set.
Blake got into Logan’s passenger seat. It was 1 am, and they had been working for 27 hours. She was still wearing the outfit from her boxing scene, and hadn’t bothered to take make up off. She sighed tiredly, looking at Logan as he got into the drivers seat. He was exhausted, too. But she figured it was worth the shot. “ I think… pizza and wine… sounds amazing,” she said, waiting a moment before looking over at him. Leah had the kids until that evening, so it wasn’t as though they couldn’t drink in their own home. “ I second that,” he said, causing Blake to sit back happily. She suggested that they stop and get one, but he offered to make her favorite at home, and they already had a supply of wine. As soon as they got home, she ran upstairs, taking a shower and placed her forehead against the glass. This had been the busiest, most exhausting week of her life. And quite honestly, nerve wracking. Releasing the music videos sent the message to the public that she was back, that she had only been gone to do videos, and that now she was ready to hit the ground running. But was she? She shook her hair out so that it was only slightly damp before changing into a pair of nike shorts and a black t-shirt. When she came downstairs, she could smell the pizza, and it smelled amazing. “ Oh,” she said, seeing that the wine was already poured. “ Thank you,” she said, taking a long drink of it.
Three AM and all she could remember of the last few hours was laughter, blushing, and lots of wine. Something about the wine made it seem easier to be around Logan, which is why she supposed she was able to be on the couch with him, sharing a blanket without feeling like she would vomit. “Play it again,” she teased, taking the remote from him as she searched through youtube to find more of V-Factory’s videos. It was amazing to see the transformation that even he had accomplished. But when she found the video from his solo career for Every Night, she paused, turning to look at him. It was the silent moments that scared her the most, the way that when she looked at his lips she could almost imagine what they tasted like. She closed her eyes, realizing that she was in fact staring at his mouth for much too long. Blake cleared her throat, leaning forward to set her empty glass down onto the table before resting back against Logan tiredly. “ I can’t move. I’m so tired.” she said, offering him the remote. “ I think Shane said Walking Dead was good,” she said. And though the opening credits seemed promising, she had already fallen asleep against Logan’s chest, holding him hostage on the couch unintentionally as she was nestled against his body, which had clearly been so safe and warm that it felt completely natural for her to do something like this. With wine involved. Blake fell into her sleep, bringing her hand up onto his chest. She’d been so sleep deprived this last week, so exhausted from working, and yet right now in this moment it felt like she’d have all the rest she’d ever need.
