Nathaniel was cleaning up his condo that he and his best friend, Mandi, lives. He moved out of his parents' place couple weeks back and visits them when he has time or when he's all alone. Which is barely. Nathaniel just realized how much he had time to himself not to mention how much he can get things done around the house. He took half day off just to clean this condo and make dinner...since it was his time to make dinner. Before he came to his place he stopped to do some groceries for their dinner. He was making his favorite food---one of his favorite food---pasta. He would eat pasta all day long if there wasn't any food in the world. He loves food, pasta it's one of his. He wasn't sure what will Mandi think but she has no choice but to eat his dinner. He doesn't eat out unless he doesn't have a choice.
Earlier that day he got a call from his close friend, Scarlet. A pretty lady that hasn't called him in a very long time and all of a sudden she calls him up. Nathaniel was surprised to get a call from her since he knows her through his best friend, Mandi. They were like a big...no not big but huge family. He happily said that he'll come over and unpack and hang out with her. Nathaniel totally had forgotten about the time when he looked at his phone to see what time it was. Nathaniel cussed under his breath as he took off to change clothes, spray his cologne, and head out the door. It took him few minutes to get things ready and get to his car in the garage. Unlocking his car, he quickly sent a quick text to Scarlet. hoping that she wouldn't get mad for him getting late.
Scar, I'm so sorry. I lost track of time. I'll be there asap.
Nathaniel placed his key in the ignition, turned on the car and placed the gear in reveres. Once his car was reversed, he placed the gear in drive and drove out of the garage and to the road towards Scarlet's place. He tried avoiding traffic but it was impossible to do so. He was driving to Upper East Side after all, and traffic was a something that he hates. Nathaniel sighed as he changed lanes, avoiding as much as traffic he can. He regretted on driving when he could've gotten a subway to upper east side. Nathaniel switched stations until he just gave in and turned on his iPod. He just played on random, letting songs play on it's one, not caring what song it's playing.
After what seemed like twenty minutes he was in front of Scarlet's place. He parked his car outside of the door, turned off the engine, got out, locked his car and went towards the elevators. Nathaniel was in a hurry, he didn't know what he had in store of when he reached Scarlet's place. But whatever it was he knew that it was something interesting and bad. He just didn't know why he was late and how he lost track of time. He wasn't sure if she's going to be mad or not, either way he was there. Better than not coming at least, right? Nathaniel got on the elevator and pressed the button that Scarlet's penthouse would be on. He checked his phone one more time to see if Scarlet had texted him or not. Negative. Before he knew it he was at Scarlet's penthouse and went in. What he saw he couldn't believe. Nathaniel shook his head with a grin on his face that said so much as he saw stuff scattered around the floor. Especially a broken picture of Scarlet and Logan. He certainly knew that something was fishy.
"Ms. Scarlet. Where are you thou?" He said as he bent down to pick up the broken picture frame and picking up the broken glasses on the floor. Nathaniel sighed as he stood up and walked more inside of the penthouse wondering where Scarlet was. He set the broken picture in the kitchen and threw the shattered glass in the trash can. He saw couple of wine bottles on the counter, one was half full, he found a glass and poured some in the glass for himself and took a sip. Nathaniel started walking around the penthouse to see what was going on til he found himself in Scarlet's room.

Scarlet tilted her head back to finish the glass of wine she had started before she looked down at her yearbook. ‘ It’s been nice getting to know you. See you around this summer,’- <3 Blake Parker”. Scarlet set the glass down before she threw her yearbook to the side of the couch and stood up. The weird thing about it was that she did consider Parker a friend. And Parker was the last person she ever thought would get Logan. She just hadn’t been a threat in Scarlet’s mind, but apparently she should have known better that things would change when they met. At first she hadn’t thought much of it, Logan had said what a diva she had been. But from there they just kept spending more and more time together,.. until they were like inseparable. There had been no need for her and Logan to break up because they weren’t officially together, even though it sort of felt like it. And she couldn’t even be mad at him if she wanted to. She was the one that was constantly saying how they couldn’t do labels. She thought it would ruin it, but now it seemed like her fear of labels had cost her to lose him anyways. And the hurt was still the same. Scarlet dangled her wine glass loosely between her fingers as she made her way to the kitchen, stepping over the framed picture that had somehow been thrown to the floor. Oh well. Scarlet hummed to herself, having the song Last Friday Night stuck in her head. She passed her phone as it buzzed against the marble countertop in her kitchen and took a few steps backwards to pick it up. She narrowed her eyebrows. Oh yeah, she’d invited Nate over. She’d met Nate a few years ago when she started coming to New York with Mandi during the summers. He was a really nice guy and she was surprised that she had never tried hitting on him considering how hot he was. But she just never really thought it would turn into anything, so what was the point. She turned on her iPod scrolling through list of artists until she stopped on Adele. She scoffed,.. it was totally cliché to listen to pissed off angry music when you were ..piss drunk and..pissed off. Scarlet selected the song ‘ Rolling In The Deep’ before she set it on the iPod dock and blared it at the top of its’ volume. Scarlet yawned to herself, pouring a fresh glass of wine before she went upstairs to her ‘office’ where she kept her computer and stuff to work on class. She lifted the lid to her Mac and scanned the screen quickly to see if Ryan or Shane had called her back yet. Or updated their status to say whether they were about to go on stage. She gave a small sigh before she closed the lid and could hear the elevator opening which meant that Nate was here. She picked up the wine glass lazily and headed downstairs, but when she reached the kitchen he wasn’t there anymore. But the picture frame was set on the counter and the glass looked like it had been picked up. She lifted her eyebrow as she looked at the picture. She was wrapping a scarf around Logan’s neck and pulling him to the side to kiss his cheek. Scarlet lifted the glass to her lips, taking a drink while she delicately placed her finger against the metal corner of the picture frame and slid it back to the ground. Woops. Scarlet heard Nate in her room and smiled, topping off her glass of wine before she went to find him. It was funny how he looked for her, sounding like someone that belonged in a Shakespeare poem. “ Some guy almost hit me in a cab the other day and a good gentleman Zach Pierson pushed me out of the way. You two should start a club,” she said with a smile as she set her wine glass down and hugged him. “ Hey Nate” she said as she laid her cheek against his shoulder. She squeezed him tightly before she stepped back. It was kind of ironic how she could wear a t-shirt and cotton shorts around him, but if the one person she was trying to forget about was here, she’d be so much more worried about what she was wearing, trying to impress him. “ So did you tell our Mandi Collins that you’re in love with her yet?” she said sarcastically as she hopped back onto her bed and crossed her legs. It was always fun to sort of pick on them, plus it took the focus off of her and placed it on them. Outfit

Looking out of Scarlet's window, mesmerizing the view. He looked down at the sidewalks seeing people walking, talking, and texting. Some tourists were taking pictures of one another, smiling, giggling and just enjoying their vacation in New York. He remembered when Scarlet came with Mandi for the first time and how much fun they had together. Those were the times of enjoying life to the fullest. No worries, No tension, no nothing but fun and enjoyment with friends. But now, he's just making his own name out there, making his parents happy and proud while having fun.
Nathaniel took another gulp on his wine as his mind drifted into some new thoughts. Things has changed so much in those couple of years that he didn't know what to expect from Scarlet. He hated on being late and seeing that she wasn't around he figured that she was busy unpacking and had lost tract of time or the fact that she had forgotten that he was coming over. whatever it was, he was glad that Scarlet moved to New York so that he could hang out with her or harass her and chill when he need to get away fro things. Like someone he can talk to other than his best friend, Mandi. At the moment he didn't know where she was at and didn't bother her since she was in her own little world trying to harass some poor guy. Nathaniel chuckled when he thought of that.
He heard someone come in the room as he turned around a blond girl hugged him tight. He smelled wine through her clothes and breathe. Nathaniel smiled as he kept Scarlet arm length so that he could see how she looks now. She had on Longhorns t-shirt and shorts. Texas He thought to himself. "Are you okay? And I see that you've met my buddy, Zachary. How's that bastard doing? I haven't seen him in while. Who knows we just might," he winked at her in the end. He just couldn't believe that Scarlet and Mandi moved to New York. Nathaniel felt like all of his friends know each other or met them in some weird places or situation. He's just plain glad that she's okay. "Longhorns? Really? Since when did you attend UT?" Nathaniel didn't know what has been going on in her life after meeting her for the first time. There was hey...hello here and there but never a real conversation.
It's funny how people meet one another everyday and from there they become great friends or something more. "What brings you here? Modeling? Auditions? Or that you called me because you needed muscles to move things around because all of your guy friends bailed out?" Nathaniel was kidding of course, hoping that she doesn't take him seriously on that one. Nathaniel laughed when Scarlet asked him if he confessed his love to Mandi. Of course he knew that she was playing around and everyone thinks that they're going to be a couple in the future---meaning that they'll end up marrying each other. Nathaniel has different plans for his future. "I did actually. Let me say that it wasn't pretty at all." He smiled big when he remembered the conversation he had the night that Mandi came to his place and how much he said to her about the past. "How about you? How's your love life?" Nathaniel wasn't sure if she was dating anyone or anything. He was tad curious about it, you can say.

Scarlet laid down on her bed, holding tight to a pillow as she watched Nate standing in the corner of her room. She laughed and shook her head, “ Oh Nate you have so much to learn about me, STILL. “ she said with a click of her tongue. “ I moved to California when I was eight. I’m originally from Texas. Once a Longhorn…. You bleed orange for the rest of your life” she said, smiling as she looked over at him. She never imagined that her life would lead her to New York of all places, but that her friends would all basically stay the same. They literally had all moved out from California to New York, and she was thankful to know Nate from her trips to New York in the past. But he had said that he was friends with Zach. “ …. You’re friends with Zach?” she said, instantly sitting up on her bed. “ Nate listen to me. I told him that my name was Scarlet Harrington. Under no circumstances,…none… can you tell him who I really am, okay? Swear to it, or I swear to god I will junk punch you someday when you least expect it. I could be behind any corner, or any door. You’ll never know when it’s coming, and the torture of waiting will be worse than the actual punch,”. She pointed at her eyes before she pointed back at Nate and laid back against the bed.
Scarlet couldn’t help but laugh as he asked her about auditions and modeling.” Uh.. yeah.. You know that I quit doing the pageant stuff once high school ended, and I couldn’t model if my life depended on it.” she said with a grin across her lips. “ If I needed muscles I wouldn’t have invited you,” she said sarcastically, suggesting that he wasn’t muscular. Even though he clearly was. Giving a small sigh she nodded.” Yeah I’ve got some stuff left yet still that I need moved around and ..lucky you, you’re also taller than me so you get to help me out with painting,” she smiled, looking back at him as she took a drink of her wine. She clicked her tongue and shook her head at him as he said that he had told Mandi he loved her. “ Rookie move” she said though she couldn’t help but laugh. Those two bein in a relationship would be a disaster waiting to happen. You could only be friends with someone so much in a relationship.
Scarlet looked up at him as he asked her love life. “Well..” she started off, laughing quietly under her breath. “ I ended my engagement with Bolton, cause he was the wrong Logan,” she said before she sat still, staring at the glass of wine. There were people in her group of friends that knew how she had felt about Logan Renner, but she’d never actually confirmed anything. Stupid wine. Scarlet opened her mouth to say something but just looked at Nate with a helpless look instead. The only other ‘Logan’ in their group was Logan Renner. And she knew Nate knew who he was, because Mandi’s brother Riley was pretty much best friends with him. Not only that… but he was married. To Blake Parker. Renner. Whatever she wanted to call herself. “ … So paint’s in the living room, I already set down tarp” she said, getting off of the bed and trying to avoid the situation she may have just created.

Nathaniel might not know things about Scarlet that her best friend knows, he is certain that he will know her better by end of the day. Their friendship would be stronger than what it is at the moment. He look his last sip of the wine in his glass and looked at Scarlet who was enjoying her new penthouse---like he was enjoying his condo. Getting to know his new friends is something that he loves, get close with them and be there like he has been there for his best friends, close friends, friends, and their families. It was funny how someone just calls him up randomly to see if he's alive or anything. Or a prank call. Those were his friends that he loves. Sometimes he starts to wonder on things that weren't meant to be thinking about and useless. For example, he'll be thinking about his brother when he can't fall asleep because he knows that more he'll think about his brother he'll fall asleep.
He didn't know that Scarlet was born in Texas and brought up in California...now she's in New York doing something for herself like every person is. Zach and Nathaniel had been friends when Zach moved to New York couple years back. He didn't take Mandi's spot, no one can, that spot is and always will be Mandi's. There was reaction that he wasn't looking for from Scarlet on his friend, Zack. He didn't know what happened between them but her reaction told him that it wasn't a pretty meeting. Like they ended up fighting each other in the middle of the sidewalk or something. Nathaniel's hands went on either side of his face picturing Scarlet junk punching him. He came back in to reality and shook his head at her. "If you do that then I won't get any kids and my wife will murder your ass if she finds out that you're the reason that we can't have kids," he said looking at Scarlet. Nathaniel knew from the first meeting that Scarlet kept her words and if someone messed her up, they'll be their worst nightmare. And he's about to have his nightmare if he doesn't keep her happy at the moment. This chick is something. If I don't say something, I'll be into pieces and shit I won't able to do anything about it. Women these days. Geez "Fine. I swear I won't mention your last name. Can you girls be more girly like the old days? I tell ya, I miss those girls. I wonder if Esta's like you and Mandi." Nathaniel wanted to know more on what happened between Scarlet and Zach. Maybe he'll give Zach a call and find out.
He did not like problems between his friends. It's like he had to pick sides, which he hated more than anything in the world. Hopefully he doesn't have to. Nathaniel made a face when she told him rookie. One of the name that he hated being called. He wasn't a rookie. Never was, never will be. "Why don't you just wear your heels and paint? You'll be tall enough to do that. So why need a man when you can do things all by yourself?" He raised his left eyebrow at her as he made the suggestion to her. If Mandi can climb up a tree to his room, then he was certain that Scarlet can paint in her heels. He wondered how they wear it when sometimes it looks like pain in their feet nothing more. He was guy and he was perfectly fine wearing his shoes. The most comfortable thing in the world besides going barefoot.
There was something about her love life...more about Logan that was missing more puzzles. Nathaniel looked at Scarlet for more information. He knew that it's gotta be Riley's best friend, Logan, who was happily married. Sadly, he doesn't want her to spill things to him when she's drunk. At the same time he wants to know everything so that he could help her. "Oh no. You're telling me everything. Right now, missy." Nathaniel grabbed Scarlet's wrist and pulled her closer to him. He doesn't want to paint the room instead he wants to Scarlet to tell him everything. He trusts her that much that he cares enough to help her. The question was that he wasn't sure if she trusts him enough to tell him the truth.

“ Tell your hypothetical wife to bring it on because I would whoop her ass,” she said with a slight lift of her eyebrow. She sighed as she looked back at him, leaning against her doorway. ” No the meeting was fine.. it’s just.. I don’t want him to know who I am. I don’t want him to judge me based on my dad. I think I kind of… want him to like me for me. Nate, I didn’t even try to sleep with him. That’s huge. I always try to sleep with guys that hot. And guys that hot are rare. The only two others that hot that I immediately tried sleeping with, were Logan and Logan,” she said giving a nod. “No offense to you, but “ MoMo” had her claim on you already when she told me she had a crush on you so I couldn’t really try even if I wanted to. Girl code” She tilted her head and glared at him. “ For your information I am very girly. If you were someone else I would show you just how girly I am” she said jokingly as she slowly started to lift her shirt as though she was going to take it off, but instead just lifted enough fabric of her shirt to show off her stomach and then lowered it back down again. She rolled her eyes as she started to head back out of the room.
“ Girls can do everything by themselves. But sometimes having boys there make it more fun,” she said, “ At least for one thing in particular,”. Scarlet poured some more wine into his glass and set her glass down, deciding she would just drink what was left from the bottle itself. She started to turn out of the room when Nate grabbed her wrist and pulled her back to him, telling her to tell him what she meant. She narrowed her eyebrows as she looked at him, weighing her options. Shit. Well she’d already admitted it, so if she didn’t explain it, then it left him to assume the worst. “ I’m in love with Logan Renner,” she said quietly, and puffed out her cheeks. That was the first time she had said it out loud. She scrunched her nose before she looked back at Nate and shook her head. “ I’ve been in love with him since we were…. Fifteen. And I’ve had myself convinced that I don’t believe in love and that I don’t want relationships. But he always had that stance , too. And now he’s married and he’s… gone.” she smiled to herself, thinking of all of the times she had spent with him before she took another drink from her glass. “ He’s happy with Blake. She made him change his outlook on relationships but um… all those years with me didn’t change anything for him” Scarlet took in a deep breath and looked back over her shoulder while looking at the walls. “ I thought that a royal color scheme would look really good..” she said, looking back at the penthouse that she knew would feel empty forever.

Nathaniel could do anything except make people made and make girls sleep with him. Everyone knew that Mandi has her marks on him, making him her little pet. Well not really her pet but her best friend that would do anything for her. The only thing that he doesn't know is the fact that his best friend likes him. He had told her that he used to had a thing for her when they were early teens. Nathaniel wished that he had known that then he would've did something about it. But now, he can't. He has moved on....completely.
He looked at Scarlet like she was completely drunk, not herself or something. He opened his mouth to say something then closed it back again, thinking what to say to her. "Hold up. You don't want Zach to like you because your dad was there? Or you don't want him to like you because you love Logan? And Mandi....my Mandi used to like me? Are you on crack?" Nathaniel wasn't sure which it was, whatever it was he hoped that she do the right thing. He was all tensed up still trying to process in his brain about the whole Mandi crush thing. Why couldn't she tell me? When I told her that I used to have a thing for her. It was somewhat hard on Nathaniel who was still trying to figure out on what Scarlet said. Playfully he covered his eyes with his hands when Scarlet slowly lifted her shirt just enough to show her bare fit stomach.
Lowering his hands he saw Scarlet filling his glass with more wine, not thinking he took his glass in his hand and took a sip. Listening to his friend talk, he felt like he didn't know what to do other than hug her. He hugged her tightly then kissed her head and looked into her eyes. "That's....uh...um...intense. I really don't know what to say. I'm guessing that I'm the first one to know about this. Right?" He wasn't a girl that knew what to say but he can be there for his friend and confront her. "You might not change guys that aren't worth it. Logan changed because he loves his wife and he will do anything for her. There might be a guy out there that you'll change," Nathaniel didn't know what he was saying but kept on saying on whatever that was coming to his mind.

Scarlet made a confused face as Nate began questioning her about why she didn’t want Zach to like her. “What? My dad wasn’t there. But he’s running for President, people know who he is. And for some reason I want him to get to know me for me ,not for who my familyis..And…it’s not like I’m going to do anything about Logan anyways. He and I had a few years to figure things out and we never did, so I guess it was supposed to work out this way. It’s just really hard sometimes.” Scarlet waved it off. ”I’ve lost a lot worse in my life. At least I haven’t lost him completely like Noah or my mom” she said giving a small nod. She could deal with any amount of pain in the world as long as Logan was alive, healthy, and happy. She’d been lying to herself for years now, what harm was there in lying to herself for the rest of her life? People did it all the time. “ Besides I don’t think we need to worry about Zach. His sister says he’s gay…” she said with a small nod. Scarlet turned her head to the side. “Wait, shit. I wasn’t supposed to tell you about Mandi,” she said while scrunching her nose. She wound her hands backward, ” Just rewind that scenario” she said, but she knew that Nate wouldn’t forget what she had said. ” Ugh..fine.”. Scarlet sighed before she lifted her wine glass. “ Mandi USED to have a huge crush on you. Don’t worry. She’s over it now. And besides you two being in a relationship would have turned out to be a disaster.” she waved it off as though it meant nothing. ‘Mandi is a girl that is comfortable having relationships. It’s easy for her to move on. I on the other hand don’t WANT another guy to”change” for me. Relationships are retarded,” she said giving him a small nod. “ There’s a few people that have suspicions and I’d be willing to bet that even Logan himself has an idea that deep down I do. But you’re the only person that I’ve actually come out and said it too. And it’s staying that way.The only reason I can see me telling anyone else is if it’s because I’m telling them that I am falling for them. Because if I ever tell a guy that I’m falling for him, it’s because he needs to hit the road. I’m not doing this broken heart bullshit”she said before she leaned away from the doorframe and headed back into the living room. Scarlet smiled as she looked over shoulder to look at Nate, ”Besides Nate, you know falling in love is the last thing I want to do. I have way too much rebellion left in my blood to be tied down,” she lifted the corner of her lips into another smile before she looked back at the boxes in her living room. Scarlet wasn’t the type of girl to let a roadblock stop her from living her life and being happy, whatever version of it she chose to be. She bent down to reach her iPod speakers, changing the song to ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ by Foster The People and stood back up, putting her hair in a ponytail. “ Are you hungry? I like to feed my worker bees” she said before she picked up her phone . She bit the inside of her cheek as she debated whether or not to text Logan. Instead she scrolled down to Zach’s name. ” Hey, I’m going to a concert Friday. Someone has to be my faux boyfriend. Shane and Ryan are still on tour. Think I can commission you to be my bodyguard? “ she typed out before pressing send and throwing her phone down. Scarlet smiled at Nate again before she walked over to him and hugged him tightly, giving him a quick platonic kiss. “ You’re a doll,” she said before she winked at him and started to move some boxes. So what he was thinking and said that wasn't the case. It was more over like the fact that her dad's running for president. How could he forgotten that? Nathaniel nodded a little setting in all the information in. As far as he knew his friend, Zach wasn't going to do anything like that. You never know when people change and like other people for money and fame. Nathaniel hated those kind of people, that's why he makes friends with the right kind of people. If they changed after he trusted then, it would take only a second to break the friendship and move on with his life. In his life he doesn't have time for backstabbers or attention-money-fame seeker. Those were just waste of time and just doesn't give a crap about them.
Nathaniel looked away trying not to embarrass himself more than he already did. "Oh! Don't worry, Zach's a pretty straight forward guy. You can trust him. You can count on that but in return, for my sake, you'll have to tell him the truth. I don't want Zach to get hurt or break his trust." Nathaniel laughed that Zach's sister said that her brother is gay. What made it more funny is that Scarlet believed his sister. He thought about telling her the truth but realized that he doesn't want to ruin the fun. If he could he could never ever forget what Scarlet said about Mandi used to have a crush on him. He's going to use that against Mandi and harass, tease, and mock her about it once he gets back to his place. He just couldn't wait. It didn't hurt to see if his and Mandi's relation would've survived or been disastrous. "Sorry, Scar but I'm not going to forget that. We would've been the perfect couple. Okay?" He smirked at Scarlet as he followed her out of her room into the living room.
He picked up couple of boxes and set them on the kitchen counter to see what was in it. When he opened one of the two carbon boxes he looked at Scarlet then back down at the boxes. "Uh, Scar? Where do you want these pans and such?" He asked as he picked up a pan in each hand and looked at his friend. Nathaniel wasn't hungry due to the wine he had but didn't hurt to order something. "It's better to be single than to deal with BS and drama in a relationship. Plus, you can flirt with any guy you want. And order something with cheese." He smiled as he went back looking through more boxes as Scarlet texted someone. Nathaniel gathered most of the empty boxes and set them aside. He laughed and shook his head when Scarlet hugged him and called him doll.
