Rosie looked at the bartender skeptically, tilting her head to the side. His name was Jack and he'd just told her the vodka he gave her was made from a pineapple. "A pineapple? Ethan," she said turning to Ethan beside her, "Ethan, our friend Jack says this is pineapple vodka. It doesn't even taste like pineapple," she said, pointing to the guy. "How do they do that? I don't even know how to make vodka, but you can give me some more." "More?" the guy laughed and Rosie nodded, "Please sir, can I have some more?" Rosie drank it quickly and then turned in her chair to face Ethan after that bartender had walked away. "I swear things keep getting weirder and weirder." Rosie mused, staring off at nothing for a second and then looked back at him, "I'm glad things worked out for Dan and Meredith. You don't have to be stuck in the middle," she said, scrunching her nose at him. Rosie knew he had tried really hard to not seem like he was picking sides, but it was hard to be in that situation anyways. And besides, he was doing a better job of being a friend anyways, at least he was around. Rosie had been off in England, and South Africa. Even though if she hadn't of been in those places she still would have been stuck in New York for a while while they were here in Hawaii, but in her state of mind she still felt like she should have been more supportive of Meredith. Not that she didn't like Dan, but she definitely wasn't friends with Dan like she was with Meredith. "What about you though, how's Natalia? You guys really got along before anyways didn't you. The first time?" Rosie couldn't see how things would be much different, they had been a fine couple the first time they dated. They only broke up because of something that seemed minor now in a way, since Ethan was becoming more famous than he probably anticipated. People were going to be in their business. Rosie swirled her glass around, thinking aloud, "She really is a nice girl, that one."And those were hard to find. Nice girls. And guys, she thought. Rosie was still confused as to what was going on in her own life, and even though it probably wasn't that confusing, when she was drunk it seemed confusing. Like were her and Declan dating? Were they going to? They had barely started anything and it seemed they already were faced with roadblocks. Rosie shook the thought from her head, listening to Ethan's response, smiling at him. As long as he was happy, then whatever. He could date a kangaroo and Rosie would think that was great. She'd think anything was great at the moment. Outfit

Ethan brought his knuckle up to the side of his jaw, giving it a quick scratch as he listened to Rosie talk to the bartender who at this point was already without a doubt smitten with her. He lifted his beer up to his lips and took a quick drink before he lifted his eyebrows as she brought up Meredith and Dan. “ Yeah that was getting ridiculous.. I still don’t think they’re on the same page, but at least they’re on the same blood chapter at this point,” he said before he reached his hand up and lifted his baseball hat off of his head by gripping onto the bill of it and scratched the side of his hair before he pulled it back down over his head. Ethan finished his beer, looking over at her as she brought up Natalia. For most people talking about this with someone you had slept with, more than once, was probably severely uncomfortable. Instead he just watched her quietly, weighing his options. He gave a small nod, as though he had come to a conclusion before he reached into the back of his jeans, where he’d been carrying around the damn thing since he bought it. He took in a deep breath, setting the ring on the counter without saying anything to her. Ethan sat up, resting his elbows on the counter before he got the attention of the bartender, “ Another beer please, mate. And some more pineapple vodka for the lady,” he said, tilting his head towards Rosie. Proposing was this huge thing. He’d even talked to Joel about it after he had done it, so sure of himself at seventeen years old. That was what he wanted to do , and he did it. And here was Ethan, in college, set in his career, dating Natalia for far longer than Joel even knew Tori and he still hadn’t asked. But here’s where it was stopping him, him and Joel lived such different lifestyles. Joel was a flirt, but he never really made time for girls. Ethan was the definition of a playboy before he dated Natalia. And a little bit when they had broken up.
Not to mention the fact that this was never the life he had anticipated for himself. FIFA, that had been the dream. Falling to his knees after making a goal in a packed stadium and feeling the sweat pour over him. Everything he had ever wanted. Here he was sitting in Hawaii because of a movie, and more offers were being thrown his way, half of them his team agreed him to without asking. He wanted to marry Natalia, he knew that. But he also wanted to discover what this new life meant for him, to him. New personality, new day job. New Ethan? He couldn’t really talk to Stefan about it. That guy had already proposed, his mind was already made up. But Shane was single, technically. He’d been a good sport about being someone to talk to, understanding. Plus he didn’t have the biased of being one of Natalia’s best friends lingering over him. He looked over at Rosie as she was surveying the ring before he picked up his new beer and lifted it off the counter. “ A little birdie told me about a certain angel being seduced by a stripper turned actor turned sidetime farmhand. Know anything about that?” he questioned with a smile in her direction.

Rosie watched as Ethan reached into his back pocket and pulled a ring out, setting it on the table. Blank faced, she picked it up, looking at it carefully and Ethan ordered more drinks. She didn't say anything right away, just turned it over in her hand, holding it up to look more closely. It was definitely an engagement ring. She wasn't sure what she thought about that. Even though not thirty seconds ago she had thought to herself how happy he seemed to be. It was really a very pretty ring. Rosie tilted her head sideways, watching the light catch on the stone. It was gold, with little diamonds all over and little tiny flower patterns. Neil Lane. Rosie shook her head slightly, she needed to clear her head. She was happy for Ethan, really truly. it was beautiful, and Natalia was going to absolutely love it. She just hadn't been expecting him to just pull out a ring and spring that on her, 'hey no big deal, i know we used to have a thing or whatever that we never really worked out or even talked about, but I think I'm gonna propose to my girlfriend.' It was just... there'd been a time when Rosie might have thought it could have been her, this small piece of jewelry might have been her future. And she was over it, she really was. That was her reality. Whatever feelings she used to have for Ethan weren't there anymore. The more time that passed, the more clear to her it was that she wasn't fully herself with him, the better they were as friends. And as she spent more time feeling like herself again, the more she could see what she'd lost, and just which people seemed to bring her back. Yes she loved the shit out of Ethan and he was her best friend, but as she handed the ring back to him she knew that they, the pair of them, were good as friends and going down separate roads was the right thing. She wanted him as a friend instead if as nothing anyways.
Rosie handed him the ring back carefully, offering a smile, "It is beautiful, she's going to love it. I approve," she nodded, laughing slightly as if her approval were needed. Rosie slid her drink closer to herself, swirling the clear liquid around in the glass, unable to exactly hide her smile when he mentioned Declan. "Oh you heard about that." What was there to say? Declan still confused her, like where the hell they stood. The was the whole angry yelling turn to really hot make out session thing, but she was here, and he was still in England. Ohhh and there was that thing that he told her. "Ethan..." she said glancing at him, sliding her glass between her hands absentmindedly, raising her eyebrows "He told me he loved me." It was really more of pointless statement, Rosie didn't know what kind of input Ethan was going to have about it. But she did know one thing that was bothering her, "I didn't say it back." She shrugged, "But I don't feel I know him like.... how can he love me so fast??" she said sighing, looking at Ethan like, what the hell right? What am I supposed to feel right now? Because right now she just felt a whirlwind of emotions she was having trouble pinpointing, "Just happening so fast..." she mumbled, "I feel like I only just- well, you know." He did know. She'd only just gotten over Ethan. She was getting back on her feet, trying out the feeling of being with someone else. So far she liked the idea. She was just getting used to it. Rosie dropped her head in her hand, staring off across the bar, "I hope he sticks around long enough for me to sort through... myself." And Rosie wasn't one to really hide how she was feeling, but being drunk only made her more of an open book. She really wasn't that complicated of a person, just so long as she herself understood what was going on in her own head. Then she'd tell you whatever you wanted to know. Rosie disregarded her thoughts, finally drinking that pineapple vodka the bartender had brought over.

Ethan brought his drink to his lips as Rosie inspected the ring. They were better at inspecting those things than guys were at inspecting cars. Never the less, it was nice to hear that she approved of it. Hopefully Natalia would approve it as much as others seemed to. He set the drink down, licking his lips. “ Thanks” he said , biting the inside of his cheek as he looked over at her smiling. “ Yeah I heard about that” he said with a slight laugh. Made things easier when you had a google alert set up on your phone for your friends. Though his friends seemed to all be so famous that it felt like his phone was going off every five minutes with a new update. He narrowed his eyebrows, listening as Rosie spoke. Declan had said he loved her, she didn’t say it back. Not only that, but she didn’t understand how it was possible for him to love her. “ Don’t be a twit, Rosie” he said with a shake of his head. “Of course he loves you.” he said . Ethan wasn’t one to share any part of himself. Ever. He didn’t like talking about feelings, and he sure as hell didn’t like explaining himself. Some people were ignorant enough to think that because he didn’t talk a lot about that stuff that he didn’t have an understanding of others. He knew how Rosie had felt. And even if he hadn’t, Dan and Meredith had both slapped him upside the head enough times to beat it into him. “ Rosie… look. This is rare, so listen” he said, giving an annoyed sigh. “ I never told you how I felt about you, and that’s not.. entirely fair” he said, giving a slight tilt of his head. Ethan reached out, placing his hand over Rosie’s. “ I can completely without a doubt understand why Declan is in love with you. And that’s because I was too,” he said, watching her carefully.
“ It’s.. If I had met you before I met Natalia, we could possibly be at a completely different place. I firmly believe that you can love more than one person in your lifetime. I also think that there is a difference between loving someone and them being your soul mate”. Ethan turned in his barstool, moving closer to her so that his legs were on the outside of hers. “ I was.. in love. With you.” he said with a slight nod. “ All the while someone else took grip of my heart, and we all know who she is.. “ he said with a slight shake of his head. “ I believe you loved me. And I believe that it’s possible for you to love another man or two in your lifetime. All I want for you.. All I need for you, is for you to find someone that you think completely takes a grip of your heart and soul. Someone that challenges you, and you still want to fall asleep in their arms. Someone who makes you want to rip your hair out.. yet the thought of being without them crumbles you. I’ve got my own issues that I’m dealing with.. Realizing I’m in love, have a soulmate.. yet having this overwhelming fixation on marriage and sort of being terrified with it. You can live without me. I know you don’t think you could, and I’m never going to ask you to do that. You’re one of my best friends, you are and always will be a part of my life. But you’re stronger than you think you are. If you had to.. You could live without me. You will find someone that you can’t live without. And I don’t mean you would die. That expression is often misunderstood. You can do your hair, and your make up. Smile pretty for the world. But once you find that person that is your entire.. universe.. then you don’t really live if they aren’t with you. You’re a shell of the person that you used to be. I think there is someone out there for you. Maybe it’s Declan. Maybe it’s not. But you Rosie.. how you felt for me.. You would’ve been settling. You will never lose me. Ever. I will always be by your side. But Rosie Madison doesn’t settle for anybody. You got that?” he said, giving her a slight smirk before he leaned over and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek. He squeezed his hand over hers before backing away. “ Window was open and now it’s closed. That emotional shit is for pansies. Let’s order some more shots.” he said, hoping it would get him back to himself. Talking about feelings really was something he hated. Loathed. Life needed it every now and then. Rosie needed it right now. That’s all that mattered.
