Declan licked his lips as he ran his hands down over the suit that had been tailored for him for tonight’s interview. Jay Leno.. it wasn’t a hard-hitting interview, but it was the best way to break back into it since he was just back in the States. England had been everything he had been running away from. His mother died. His father was mentally checked out, semi-understandably. Rosie… He smiled faintly as he thought on her before he turned his head upward. “ Sir..” someone said, gesturing to the stage. “ Oh, sorry mate” Declan said, clapping his hand against the techs back as he made his way onto the stage. He lifted his hand into the air and smiled as he made his way over to Jay, giving him a firm handshake before he gestured for Jay to sit down, the pair of them having a semi-battle to make the other sit first. Finally Declan relented, unbuttoning the jacket of his suit before he sat down, bringing his right ankle up to cross over his left knee. He nodded again graciously at the applause and licked his lips, turning to shake his head at Jay. Finally the noise drowned down and Jay started off with a slight laugh. ‘ Sorry, whenever they see someone as handsome as myself they just go wild’. Declan laughed, giving a nod. “ I imagine you must hear the screams in the safety of your own home, then” he said, reaching out to pick up the coffee mug that was never actually filled with coffee, but was always filled with water. ‘ Yeah it’s unbelievable, you have no idea. Speaking of home, this isn’t exactly home for you but you’re back in the States. Home for you is in England right?” Declan licked his lips and gave a slight shake of his hand. “ Moreso.. Ireland. But um, yeah my mum and dad bought a property in England when I was young so I sort of tend to visit both to get a sense of ‘home’.” he said, setting the mug down. “ Of course New York is home to anyone and everyone” he said with a slight grin, resting his elbow on the armrest. ‘ And I won’t touch on it too much I just uh.. There’s been a lot of talk about the reason as to why you were overseas and it’s truly an awful experience to ever have to go through. It’s a terrible thing to hear about, and I’m truly sorry” Declan gave a tight nod, “ Thank you,” he offered. Declan wasn’t ever one to tip-toe around stuff. Being blunt and honest was sort of one of his trademarks.
“ Yeah, my mum passed away and I uh.. it was a rough time. Nowhere close to being over it. But to anyone who has ever lost a loved one you know that they’re never really gone. She’s just as much with me here in New York as she is in England, so it’s.. time to get back on the horse, get back to work. Focus on moving forward.” he said, bringing his hand up to the side of his jaw where he scratched it. “And moving forward you are. It seems you got offered a lead role in the new movie being adapted from popular write Stephanie Meyer.. titled The Host. Can you tell us what that’s about?”. Declan lifted his eyebrows, “ Yeah actually.. it’s none of this vampire werewolf business. It’s a whole new playing field. Basically The Host is about.. aliens. Ha.. um.. “The Host” is the human body in which the ‘alien’ type being forces themselves into. My character plays someone who is um.. sort of in a resistance against it. He hates the aliens and everything they stand for. And he ends up falling in love with, well is in love, with a woman who almost refuses to let the alien take over her body completely. So it’s.. two women in one body.. in love with two different men..” he said, giving a slow smile at the reaction of the audience. “ It truly sounds more confusing than it is, it’s a terrible plot to try and describe. Unless you’ve read the book, or after a time being , have seen the movie then it’s.. difficult” he said. “ And you yourself, have you ever been in a love triangle?” Jay asked and Declan smiled again. “See Ethan warned me that when you’re in a movie with such high romance plotline that the interviews would get personal” he said, leaning his arm against the armrest as he readjusted in his seat. “Yes but Ethan Fox gives close to no details on his personal life” he continued. “ Yeah he’s a bit of a Scrooge” Declan said jokingly.
“ Yeah I tend to pretty much be an open book with things like that. Um.. I wouldn’t say a love triangle, exactly. But I’ve definitely felt that..angst. About wanting to be with someone who you think has no idea you’re even existent. When in reality you’re just both blind” he offered, narrowing his eyebrows a bit. “ Would you be referring to Rosie Madison?” he asked and Declan lifted his eyebrows in mock-surprise. “ Have you heard of her?” he asked sarcastically before he smiled and gave a dramatic sigh. “ I have.. have you? What do you have to say about her?”. Declan puffed out his cheeks, pretending to look at his watch “ How much time do you have?” he said before shaking his head with a smile. “ Rosie.. is.. happiness. In every sense of the word. If I had to describe her she’d be um.. home, comfort, care, bliss.. I think when she smiles the entire world feels a bit lighter.” he said before smiling at a the reaction from the female audience members. “ So you two are dating?” Jay asked and Declan cleared his throat before giving a slight nod. “ Yeah I imagine I would say that” he continued, unable to keep the smile off of his face. “ Is it difficult being in a relationship with someone who is such close friends with one of their exes? It’s pretty common that Ethan and Rosie were. Close.” Jay pressed and Declan made a slight face, “ Yeah I’m not going to lie. It was a bit intimidating to go into a situation.. well they never really were ‘official’ persay. God, he’s going to kill me. He hates talking about it, so I really shouldn’t. But um.. Yeah it was difficult. He’s all hair and teeth, good looks. How the hell is a mate supposed to compete with that” he said, picking the coffee cup back up to take a drink. “ So the competition is over and the best man won” Jay joked and Declan laughed, setting his mug down. “ Ah yeah the best man for her won out I guess. But I mean when your competition has a ring lined up for another girl it’s really not that hard to get your sights on your target.” he said, before licking his lips. “ Ethan Fox has bought an engagement ring for Natalia Richmond?” Jay asked with surprise. Declan blinked. Fuck. “ I’m sorry, is this live?” he asked with genuine concern as he realized what he had just dropped. Damnit Rosie. Never tell him anything.
Declan took in a deep breath wanting to get away from that subject. “ We’re not here to discuss Ethan.. you can ask him all the personal questions you want to the next time he is on your show” he said decisively, “ I have a feeling he will be avoiding my show for a while,”. Declan nodded in agreement, giving a slight laugh, “ Probably.”. Declan looked out at the audience before looking back at Jay and offered a slight smile. “ You’re a handsome young star with an accent, which is the greatest accessory these days. You have what is bound to be a blockbuster on your hands. Your best friends are movie stars. You’re girlfriend is literally an Angel. Where do you go from here? What’s next for you?” Declan licked his lips, knowing that Jay was talking about career wise, but honestly he had no idea on that front. “ From here.. I will probably stop and pick up some take out food and head over to said Angels’ place. It’s nice just to be somewhere where I can settle. There’s about to be a lot of chaos going on and the big circus starting in my life and any moment I can sink into a couch with her, I’d be an idiot not to savor it. “, he said licking the corner of his lips. “ The way you talk about her,.. your relationship sounds like a fairy-tale”. Declan gave a short, harsh laugh. “ No. It’s not.. um.. I mean it is in the sense that I’ve never found someone who makes me feel the way she does. But anyone who is in a successful relationship knows what it means to put work into something. We’ve overcome a lot together already. Heart break on both ends. And now we’re back in the states, sort of getting on our feet. She.. irritates the fire out of me. We argue. But it’s always short lived. I think that.. more or less our arguments get started because she asks a question but is somewhat surprised by my blunt honesty. One thing I’ve learned.. gentleman, take note. When you find it amusing when your girlfriend is getting so worked up during an argument.. do not.. under any circumstance, laugh. It apparently makes it worse. “ he said with a slight shake of his head. ‘ Yeah making up with Rosie Madison has to be a tough job’ he countered back. “ Unfortunately someone has to do it” he said with a slight smirk. ‘Well it was amazing to have you on tonight and we are all looking forward to The Host. Thank you so much for stopping by” Jay said as Declan leaned over, thanking him and shook his hand. He could not get off that stage fast enough, tearing off the wires and microphones as he took out his phone to call Rosie about the little Ethan-Natalia bomb he just dropped.
