Elijah shut the door to his bedroom quietly, making his way towards the kitchen as he ran the palm of his hand over his eye tiredly. He yawned just as he was entering the kitchen, opening the fridge and looking down at the ingredients inside of it. Cooking was hard on its own. Cooking for a vegan? That just presented a whole other challenge. Thankfully he’d mastered a few recipes. He’d learned how to boil down tofu into an egg like substance to be able to make her vegan eggs, the hollandaise sauce had been a little bit trickier but.. she was worth the effort. As he started cooking he found himself distracted, thinking about the school shooting, what would have happened if he had lost her. He was brought out of his deep thoughts as his phone went off. Elijah wiped his hands off, looking down the hallway to make sure the ringing hadn’t woken Kristen up before he answered the phone, “ Hello?” he asked, placing it between his ear and shoulder. ‘ Hey! I’m glad you’re up. Look, I’m close to your apartment and I wanted to stop by. I was hoping that you could run some errands with me today. I think Stefan needs a break from me, plus there’s a surprise I want to get for him” Hillary said, rambling off. Elijah shook his head, trying to keep up with everything she was saying since she was talking so fast. “ Wait, what?” he questioned, ‘ I’m down the block from your apartment, how quickly can you get dressed?” she repeated, “ No!” he said quickly, going to his window to see if he could see her car. “ No?”[/b] she asked, clearly confused. “ Uh.. I’m not home,” he said, moving away from the window. He listened at the sigh on the other end of the phone, ‘ You are just never there for me when I need you” she said playfully before he heard her click her tongue and then continue. ‘ Okay well.. when you get back in town give me a call. Stefan and I would love to have you over for dinner” she said , “ Yeah I .. I would love to,” he said, hanging up after she said goodbye. Elijah set his phone down on the counter, putting his hands up on the top of his head as he let out a deep sigh.
“ Oh.. shit.” he said, remembering the vegan omelette on the stove. He slid it off of the skillet and onto a plate before he went over and picked up his cup of coffee. Being her teacher was hard enough. Being close friends with her brother and his fiancé didn’t exactly tip the odds in their favor either. Elijah leaned away from the counter and took the strawberries out of the fridge, cleaning them off before he set them on the plate beside the omelette. He was taking another drink from his coffee cup when he looked at the envelope from Columbia. He was still weighing his options and.. really, didn’t he want to talk to Kristen? His future was hers too. He didn’t really want to make any choices without her involvement. But then what did that mean? Did he plan on marrying her? Elijah pinched the bridge of his nose before he set the coffee cup down and picked up the envelope, taking the papers out as he looked down at the job offer written down in black and white. But even then he knew, right? Of course he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. She really was young. He didn’t want to get involved in ruining any plans for her, or influencing hers. At least part of him had to be responsible.
