“Where are you taking me?” Kristen said with a small laugh from the passenger seat. Colten had come to pick her up and told her that the were going to have a nice time out to catch on up everything. Kristen loved the fact that Colten was going to be home for awhile again. His company toured the entire world and he was always away from them for so long. Now they had time to be together and Kristen had so much to tell him, but she just didn’t know where to start. School, friends…Elijah? No, not him. Kristen would eventually need to tell Colten and Stefan, but right now Colten was enough. Stefan would freak when he found out. Colten was more understanding than Stefan was. Stefan was the fight first ask questions later kind of guy, when it came to Kristen. Colten listened to everyone’s reasoning first. He hated fighting, but if he had to, he’d do it. “Don’t worry about it.” Colten said with a laugh. “It’s a surprise. You’ll love it, I know you will.” “Whatever.” Kristen said with a smile. She turned on the radio and turned it up, “I love this song.” “ Me too. Lets blast this shit.” Colten said as he turned it up louder. Kristen laughed once more. “Holy fucking bass.” she said as she felt her eardrums vibrating. She looked over to see Colten laughing. She missed this. Them going out just having fun. Stefan usually went out with them, but Kristen wanted a night with Colten. Kristen put her hands up and moved her body around, lightly flipping her hair with the music. Just then Colten turned the radio down, “Save some of those moves.” he said with a smile. “We’re going dancing?” Kristen asked excitedly. “Maybeeee.” Colten said with a smirk. “We do need to eat first. I am so hungry.” “God, me too. I haven’t eaten all day.” “Why? That’s not good.” “I know, I’ve just been so busy with everything. Getting things ready for school in the fall.” “Oh, right, where are you going?” Kristen smiled, “Columbia! I got in!” she said with a laugh. “Sweet! I’m so proud of you.” Colten leaned over towards Kristen and gave her a one armed hug as he was driving. “We definitely need to celebrate tonight. Hope you have your fake ID on you.” “Always.” “I was kidding, but lets get hammered then.” he said with a small laugh, “Kidding. We can have enough to have a good time.” Kristen smiled, “I know when to cut myself off Colten.” He laughed too, “Well you’ll have to tell me when.” he winked at her as he looked over to her and then back to the road.
“We’ve been in the car forever, where are we going?” she asked one more time. “It’s only been a half hour. Jeeze.” Colten smiled. “I told you, it’s a surprise. And now we’ve got something to celebrate so and you’re twenty-one so I changed up the place. We’ll be there soon, don’t worry.” He pat her head and then put his hand back on the shift. Kristen danced a bit in her seat, looking out the window for any clue she could get, but she had no idea where they were going. Just then Colten pulled into a parking lot and Kristen read the sign, “Crucero Latino, Salsa dancing?” she asked as she looked over to Colten as he nodded. “I’m not dressed for salsa.” she said. Colten laughed, “It’s not just salsa, they play everything. And you look fine. You’ll blend in, trust me.” Colten cut the engine and pulled the keys out of the ignition. He got out of the car and Kristen did too. He beeped the alarm as both of the doors were shut. “You ready?” he asked. “I guess so." she smiled. Not knowing what to expect. She had never even heard of this place. “I thought we were going to eat.” she asked looking up to him. Colten laughed, “We are. There is a restaurant on the first floor and the dancing happens down on the second. You can still hear the music in the restaurant though.” They walked to the door with their arms looped and in through them. They got to the hostess, “ID’s please.” she smiled. Kristen took out hers and handed it to her after Colten. She took it back, “Thank you. Right this way.” They followed the hostess to a booth on the side and sat down, “Your waitress will be right with you,” Kristen smiled to the girl. She didn’t look a day older than Kristen. Kristen picked up the drink menu and looked over it, what did she want? The waitress came over, “What can I get you guys for drinks?” Colten smiled, “I’ll start with Bud Light Lime in a glass please.” “Certainly, and for you?” her attention now on Kristen, “I’ll have the Tequila Grapefruit cocktail.” “No problem. Be right back with those.” “Hmm, “ Colten said as he looked over at Kristen, “tequila huh?” Kristen smiled, “Yup.”
On about Kristen’s fourth cocktail, the food was coming out. “I am so hungry.” she said looking over her plate. “I bet, you’ve been downing those cocktails over there. You sure you know when to stop?” Colten asked with a laugh. “Yes, I’m sure.” she replied with a sweet smile. “I can tell I’m going to have my hands full tonight. I’m gonna have to peel the guys off of you. Just what would your boyfriend think?” he asked sarcastically. Oh no! He knows. “You know?” she said as she dropped her fork. “Whoa whoa, easy now. I know you have a boyfriend. Stefan told me. We just don’t know who he is.” Kristen let out a sigh of relief as she leaned her head up against the back of the booth seat. “Thank God.” she said under her breath and she went back to eating. “Is he that bad?” Colten asked confused. Kristen looked up at him and smiled, “No he’s not bad at all. He’s amazing. More than amazing. He’s perfect.” “Well why doesn’t anyone know who he is? Is he really a she?” Colten laughed and so did Kristen. “No he is definitely a he.” she said with emphasis on the definitely. “TMI Kris, TMI.” “Sorry.” she say as she felt her face heat up. “Look if you don’t want to tell me, that’s fine. I won’t push you.” Colten smiled and began to eat. “Thanks.” Kristen returned to her food as well. After about 10 minutes of eating in silence the waitress came over, “Can I get you guys anything else? Any dessert?” Before Colten could say anything, Kristen spoke up. “We’d like two rounds of shots. Tequila please and a round of Jager Bombs.” “Certainly.” the waitress smiled and left. “Jeeze. Guess you do want to celebrate.” “It’s not everyday you get in to your number one choice college.” “True, true.” Colten smiled and finished off his food. The waitress came over and placed all the shots on the table. She cleared the plates, “Anything else?” “No thank you.” Kristen did the Jager Bomb first and then both the tequila shots, one right after the other. Colten just stared at her, “Okay then.” He lifted the Jager Bomb up to cheers, “Cheers,” he said to himself and then made the clink noise. He followed Kristen’s actions and then leaned back and looked at her. “You look so much like your father.” Kristen felt her face get hot once again, “That’s what Stefan tells me all the time. I wonder sometimes if that’s why my mother doesn’t look at me too often.” Kristen sighed and looked around. “Do you want dessert?” She shook her head and just continued to look at the other people in the restaurant.
