Addison took a deep breath and let it out slowly. This was her first TV interview ever and it was with Ellen. She had come a long way from when she first moved to New York. She was a nobody, now tons of people knew who she was, Ellen knew who she was. There was no way that she could have ever imagined this happening to her. She came from a trailer park in Iowa. No family. No friends. Just her. New York changed so many things for the better for her. Just then Addison was pulled out of her thoughts with a knock at the door. “Yes?” “You almost ready? You’re on in five.” “Ye..yes ma’am.” Addison looked at herself one more time in the full length mirror and smiled. “It’s go time baby.” She stepped away from the mirror and opened the door. “You look great.” the crew person said as they checked to make sure her mic was all set up and ready to be turned on at the right time. “If you would please just follow me. We’ll get you all set up.” Addison’s nerves were at their peak right now. She was going to be performing in front of cameras and an audience. Sure she performed at the lounge, but this was very different. Thousands of people would be watching this. The lounge had an atmosphere she was use to, this was very very different and something she was not comfortable with right now. “Okay, your spot is right there. The lights will come on you after Ellen introduces you. You okay?” Addison took her spot and nodded her head lightly, “I’m good.” “Good, there’s no turning back now.” The woman smiled and quickly left the stage. As Ellen began to introduce her, she closed her eyes and began to relax, she could do this.
“Our next guest has become very popular in a short period of time. She is a new pop singer and everyone seems to love her. She is an independent artist and has an album titled ‘Stripped’ coming out at the end of the month. Her to perform her single ‘The Voice Within’ please welcome Addison Villanueva.” The next thing Addison heard made her open her eyes; the crowd was cheering and clapping, for her. The music began and the spotlight was on her. This was her time to shine and show people who she was and what she could do.
Addison smiled and waved to the audience cheering for her. Some people were standing up and crying and clapping for her, this touched her heart. Addison blew a few kisses to the audience as she walked over to meet Ellen. “Wow. Beautiful.” Ellen said as she shook Addison’s hand and gave her a quick hug. Addison smiled and sat down, ‘Thank you very much.” She felt her eyes starting to tear up as she looked out at the audience; they were still clapping for her. “Aw, are you going to cry?” Addison laughed a bit and lightly wiped her eyes, “Make up is probably going to be mad.” She said with another quick wipe, “This just means so much to me. I’ve never felt the way I feel right now and it is amazing.” “Yeah this is all for you. They loved you, I love you. Your voice is just incredible. I’ve never heard anything like it before.” Addison smiled again, “Thank you, thank you so much.” “How do you sing like that? You’ve got an amazing range. I’ve heard the album and wow...” Addison wiped her eyes once more and let out another small laugh. “I don’t know, it just happens. It’s been that way for as long as I can remember. I’ve got mutant lungs I think.” Ellen laughed, “Hey they’ve gotten you this far, love ‘em.” “Oh I do.” Addison shifted in her seat and played with the tissue in her hand.
“So you are a beautiful girl. I love this look you’ve got. I’m sensing Marilyn Monroe here. The make up and the hair. Beautiful.” “Thank you. I was trying to channel Marilyn, I’m glad it worked. I love that woman. She has been my inspiration ever since I was a little girl. I just live by her quotes. She was an extraordinary woman. True beauty was what Marilyn had.” Ellen smiled, “You’ve got her look down pat. You seem to be very interested in the 50’s era and everything pin-up. Your Candyman video and Ain’t No Other Man video just show that.” Addison smiled and nodded her head, “Everything about the 50’s just intrigues me. I always say that I’m living in the wrong time. I would gladly trade places with a 50’s housewife right now. Do you see the wonderful clothes and hairstyles that these women had? Amazing.” “Yeah me too.” Ellen joked. “So how did you get your start in singing?” “Well I never really sang back home in Iowa, only because nobody ever wanted to hear it. They all told me it was a waste of time and it wouldn’t get me anywhere in life. They never took the time to actually listen to me. They all thought I was another wannabe who thought I could sing. I needed a break; I needed to get away from all the people that were always putting me down. Actually, I had this song that I wrote when I was 17 and I saved up all my money to get a video made for it. Everything was done and I showed it to the people who I considered to be my family and my co-workers and they shot it down saying that I’d never make it on that and that I should just put that silly dream behind me. “ “What was the song called?” “It was What A Girl Wants and I thought it was good, but all the hate and negativity made me think that it actually was bad. So I never did anything with it. I think it’s actually still on a tape somewhere.” “I’d love to see it.” “Maybe I could email to you or something.” “Yeah, great. So what happened when you got to New York?” “This is when all the fun began. It took me weeks to find a job. I was about to lose hope when I came across something called the Burlesque Lounge. This place was my savior. I started out as a waitress but eventually made my way up to the stage and people were finally able to hear me sing.” Ellen smiled, “Burlesque huh? I didn’t think they had those places anymore. That’s cool. What about this contest you entered?”
“Well there was a guy in the audience that was somehow in with Maroon 5 and he came up to me after the show and told me about a contest that I could enter and get a chance to sing on a track with Maroon 5. Of course I entered. I actually ended up winning and that’s how we got Moves Like Jagger. It was an incredible opportunity to be able to work with them.”
The audience clapped and Ellen nodded, “That is a great song. So Maroon 5 has since signed with Taboo Records. Are you looking to get signed or what?” Addison shifted one more time and then crossed her legs. “I like being an independent artist only because I can still work at the lounge. That place is like my home and it is really where I got my start. I know I can’t stay there forever, but I love it there. I would like to be signed to a label eventually. I would like the backing and my own studio and what not. Who knows, maybe Logan Renner is tuning in now and likes what he sees or something.” Addison laughed. “Yeah Logan,” Ellen said, “she’d like to be signed. Set up a meeting or something. Now before we go to commercial, is there a mister in your life?” Addison instantly smiled, “There is actually. He is my boyfriend and my best friend. He is the best guy I have ever known. He really makes me happy and I love him with all of my heart.” “Great, I’m glad. Thank you for coming out.” “No, thank you for having me. This was fun.” “It was fun.” Ellen looked to the audience and cameras, “ Make sure you guys pick up Addison’s album Stripped at the end of the month. You can preorder it tonight at midnight on iTunes.” Addison hugged Ellen, waved to the audience and headed backstage. She quickly headed to the dressing room to call Andre.
