The mornings that Claire woke up before Shane were severely outnumbered by the mornings he let her sleep in. For some reason she had gotten up early this morning, part of her believed it was because she knew how hard Shane had been working last night and that he needed his sleep. Though, she hated waking up in the mornings without a shower already running – or without a little of Shane’s assistance. Currently, she was holding Brayden up against her side as she prepared the bottle for him. Just because Shane was sleeping in now, it didn’t mean he would be for long. Brayden was his best little friend, his favorite person to be around. Eventually he would hear Brayden’s cooing and laughter and come downstairs. The little fella had gotten pretty good at rolling and though he hadn’t quite gotten the idea of crawling, it was like her and Shane could see the wheels rolling behind his eyes, working his arms and legs when he laid on his stomach. Claire smiled down at the little faux hawk that he was sporting in his hair and leaned down to kiss the top of his forehead before she came out to the couch, pushing her glasses up her nose as she made herself comfortable and settled in with Brayden to feed him the bottle. She’d marked the lid of it so that when he was finished it would look like he had a mustache, which she figured Shane would surely get a kick out of. He was dressed up in his little rocker blue jeans, plain white onesie, and a flannel shirt to go over it. All dressed up for the day and nowhere to go. When he was finished eating Claire smiled down at him, tickling his sides softly so he would laugh.. not too much, there was no sense in making him spit up over everything, not when he looked so cute with his little mustache. She turned her ear to the side, smiling as she heard Shane rustling to get up. Pretty much right on cue. He loved that kid more than anything in the world. “ Daddy’s up,” she said, smiling down at Brayden before tickling his sides again just to see him smile. A couple minutes later and Shane was downstair, clean shaven. It bothered Claire when his whiskers roughed up Brayden’s cheeks. “ Good morning, darling,” she said, looking up before she readjusted her glasses and smiled up at him, sitting up against the back of the couch to offer him a kiss. How many times was she actually awake before him? Never. “ Here,” she said, holding Brayden to her side securely as she stood up and made her way over to Shane. “ Hang out with him for a second, I’ll make you some breakfast,” she said, standing on the tips of her toes so she could give him a kiss.
Claire stretched her arms out above her head, making her way over to the ottoman before she picked up the remote and turned the tv to Cartoon Network for Shane before tossing the remote back down and heading to the kitchen. It was strange how being married hadn’t changed anything between them – well it had, in the sense that they were an honest to god, put it on paper, his and hers, till death do us part- family. But Claire sort of assumed that Shane had felt that way about her all along, at least – he’d felt that way about her for as long as she had felt that way about him. Ever since Detroit. Claire went over, getting the blanket on the edge of the couch to hand to Shane so him and Brayden could cover up before she finally made her way to the kitchen. Twirling her wedding ring around her finger, she looked through the fridge lethargically, doing her best to try and find something that Shane might want to eat for breakfast. In all honesty he would probably be fine with a bowl of cereal. But about a half hour later she had whipped up an order of hashbrowns, some fried eggs, way more bacon that anyone could healthily manage to eat, and miniature pancakes that she had made using a batman symbol cookie cutter. She assorted it all out on the plate before bringing it out to him, setting it down in front of him before she gestured to take Brayden so that Shane could eat. They both knew Shane would get him back as right as he was done eating. Whether Brayden was a mama’s boy or not, Shane was obsessed with him. Claire scooted in, making herself comfortable as she sat beside Shane and rested against his side as he ate, with his cartoons on, and her and Brayden beside him. Claire smiled down at Brayden before putting some of the whipped cream on his nose, just to see him try to figure out what it was as both of his eyes tried to center towards his nose before he eventually put his hand in it and started laughing. Shane was going on tour soon and she knew it would crush him to be away from Brayden that long – and honestly she hated the idea of Brayden not having his father around. But that’s what Skype was for. And if there was a show close enough, she would go to any one that she possibly could just so they could spend some father-son time together. She might have just been some silly teenage girl in pajama pants with bunny slippers, one of Shane’s t-shirts and her hair up in a messy bun, with her dorky glasses on, but most of her imagined that Shane would miss her too and not just Brayden. Rockstars weren’t supposed to be leaving girls like her behind. They were supposed to leave behind the model girls… Madeline. But this system she and Shane had going.. she couldn’t honestly see herself happier. If anyone thought that them getting married was by any means them ‘settling down’. They were still two crazy kids in her eyes, or atleast, they were really playful with each other. They had a laser tag arena in their home for Christ sake. And she still had the urge to make out with him like they were two highschoolers underneath the bleachers during a pep rally. And he was such a good father, it just made him more attractive in her eyes. So they’d gotten married – for themselves, something that neither of them still felt clearly was anyone else’s business. She couldn’t help but smile as she looked over at the ring that was on his left hand. There was just something about being able to see it on him, and she didn’t want to speak for him, but it made every part of her sad to take it off when she went in public and wear it on a different finger.
“ I think you’re going to be missed by a special little someone,” Claire said, tracing her fingertip gently against Brayden’s cheek as she looked over at Shane eating his breakfast. She smiled at the look on Shane’s face as he was chewing his food and then gave a quick sigh and laid her head back. “Oh, we have to run an errand today,” she said, doing her best to not smile as she made a face and looked over at him. Sure, Joel had helped her out a little bit with this one on getting access to it. “ Apparently the batmobile is in a parking garage, waiting for you to go test drive it for the day. I made Brayden a little Robin onesie for when we go watch,” she said before smiling softly at him. People could get each other presents just because. And she knew she would have wanted to do this no matter what – but it seemed like the perfect timing considering Shane wasn’t going to be home that often for a while and it would be nice to sort of spoil him a bit before he had to leave. She didn’t want to admit how sad it made her, the thought of him leaving. But what helped placate it was that she knew how much he loved being on stage, making music, going out and seeing the fans. It was the same passion she had about dancing – and if he could feel that just for a few moments than surely she could get over whatever she was feeling in order to be supportive for him. After all, she’d married him because she wanted him to have all of the happiness in the world, which meant supporting him on any endeavor he had. “ I get to wear something besides cotton,” she said happily as she looked down at Brayden, tickling his cheeks again to make him smile. Dressing up was probably one of her favorite parts of the day – and she was sure it looked odd seeing them as a family. Shane with his jeans, converse shoes, plaid shirts, messy hair. Claire with her tight skirts, dresses, skinny jeans, always a pair of heels since she considered herself unbearably short, her hair curled messy to look like ‘sex-hair’ as she called it, but definitely a mixture of preppy-punk. If she wore lace, there was always leather with it, too. And then little Brayden, who looked like a physical copy of Claire, with the wardrobe of Shane. She needed a shower , which was still her favorite to do with Shane. It was just that they could never get away with it when Brayden was still sleeping. She knew Shane always wanted to get Brayden up so he could see him – but her favorite mornings started when he woke her up first so they could shower together. Claire looked over when it looked like Shane was finished eating before she sat up and offered him his son. “ Okay it takes me longer to get ready so I’ll get started first,” she said with a quiet laugh under her breath before she leaned down to give Shane a kiss and then quickly made her way upstairs.
